Not when you have three spots in the rotation that getting a solid 5 innings is considered good Peacock was good as a starter for a couple times through the lineup but rarely went deep. Miley and McHugh aren’t likely to go into the 7th regularly. Baseball is different now. If Peacock is in the rotation we have lost Him, McHugh, Sipp and Smith from the pen last year. That is significant on a staff that isn’t likely to give you as many starter innings as last year. We were incredibly healthy as a starting staff last year
These areas are of concern to me as well. We have lost a lot of pitching from last year. I am not going to make a definitive list on who we lost, who is hurt, and who we added until the regular season starts. Things could shift. But right now it feels like we have lost a lot more than we have replaced (duh). I am going to try and be patient and just not get too committed to any opinion right now concerning the future. I think for me, I need to limit my impressions of the pre-season to nothing more than which way the winds are blowing.
If they are offering Harper 300 mil and are already in the luxury tax, I doubt they’ll be adding a 25-30 mil/yr pitcher
I expect there to be lots of shuffling of bullpen arms and to some degree starters from AAA to the majors. Even with our great starters last year we used 22 pitchers. Now that AAA is in Round Rock and AA still in Corpus they will be able to make moves and have a guy on the field that night in Minute Maid Park without a problem.
Osuna and Pressly will be here for a full season along with Josh James. Peacock spent the whole season mostly doing low leverage work, he was underutilized. A mid 3 ERA plays much, much better as a starter. McHugh was also grossly underutilized for much of 2018. I would rather see if we can't find some dominant bullpen arms from the farm than be stuck with a bullpen full of mediocre middle relievers. Armenteros, Perez, Deetz, Guduan lets see what they can do with the low leverage innings.
I don’t think Peacock will be in the rotation. So you’re talking about a bullpen of Osuna, Pressly, Rondon, Harris, Peacock, James, and probably Cionel Perez. That’s 5 guys who were very, very good last year, a Top 50 prospect who had an encouraging debut last season, and a fringe Top 100 prospect who also showed some good things in his mlb debut last season. 3 of those guys can go multiple innings. Color me unconcerned. Now if Verlander, Cole, Osuna, or Pressly goes down, those guys are less easily backfilled.
LOL Framber Valdez is listed at 170 pounds. That's one of the more preposterous listings I've ever seen in any sport.
Aside from the absence of Bregman, who should be back soon, this is about as close to an Opening Day lineup as it gets.
Our lineup is so ridiculously stupid. So many clubs would kill for that lineup, and oh by the way, we have a top 15 talent in all of mlb not in at the moment. Luhnow >>>>>
Peacock looked pretty good in 2 innings. 3 flyouts, 2 strikeouts, and one ground out. No hits or walks
1st: Altuve struck out swinging. 2nd: Altuve struck out swinging. 4th: Altuve struck out looking. Altuve is washed. /s
