[MacMahon] James Harden: Rockets needed consistent scoring reflected in streak

Rockets need another superstar in his prime. This summer will be interesting.

I sometimes wonder if Harden’s hero ball exploits cause the team as a whole to relax on defense, with the belief that his shooting will always keep them in the game. I think it takes an edge off the team that they need, and generally had last year.

 

Paul and gordon can’t shoot. They need to play defense to make it up.
Let others make shots.

 

Harden had to do what he had to do, but the streak was very forced at some points and saying there's no one to pass to is the exact opposite version of making your teammates better. As an extreme example I'm sure Steve Nash could get more out of these teammates than people think possible right now.

Harden's a scorer first though, always has been, and we don't need to apologize for a great scorer. For critics to ignore that his 36 points are the most efficient 36 points we've seen for 20+ years is disingenuous. This is not Kobe's 35ppg season. Harden is doing it on 3 fewer shots and 3 more assists. That's a world of difference.

1 player (MJ) in the past HALF A CENTURY has been able to score like this in a single season. Harden is 0.5ppg from Michael Jordan's 86-87 37.1ppg season and on 3 fewer shots, 3 fewer minutes and 3 more assists.

I don't care about the narrative, or anything else out there about him being a ball hog. The city of Houston (F our owner) needs to do everything they can to embrace James, and do what we can to keep him here for the rest of his career.

 

It's all Harden, his streak, his MVP chances.

Meanwhile the team is playing inconsistent ball.

Focus on the real things.
