Correa is 43rd among all MLB players since Astros inception 24 and under in WAR despite back issue. You can wordsmith it all you want, but his production at his age speaks well for future production. Only concern going forward is his back. He's not a pitcher. Injuries outside chronic things like a back don't predict future injuries very well for position players as sample size is too small.
Fans say “we got to pay our own players first”, I’m like who are those players? Cole and Bregman? Springer and Verlander aren’t getting any younger, and Correa’s got a lot to prove. Not that this means they should go after Harper, but this line of thinking always irked me.
Yup. The only player I’d rather them extend vs signing Harper is Bregman. I think he’s likely to age really well. Correa could be Troy Tulowitzki and be too hurt or immobile to even play 3B consistently past 30. Springer probably only has 2-3 more season max of being able to handle CF. Pitchers by nature carry too much risk.
MLB and MLBPA exchanged game change proposals recently. MLB suggested each pitcher faces 3 batters. Union proposed universal DH. MLB can make pitch clock happen this year without players agreement.
All the rules the proposed make great sense to me. I was anti DH forever but once you take a step back, having to watch pitchers hit is ridiculous. Pitch clock, reduced mound visits, and reduced pitching changes are definitely the way to shorten the game.
I'm certain there will be an exception to the "have to face 3 batters" if someone is injured. My guess is you're going to see a lot of pitchers faking injuries when they don't have "it."
I'm sure a DL stint will be required if a pitcher gets pulled early. Or they could do like the NBA, and allow the opposing team to select the next pitcher like when a player can't shoot his FT's. There's no way they don't account for "injuries"
Teams make the choice not to prioritize hitting from the pitchers. I see it like the shift. Should the shift not be allowed because a player prioritizes power over spreading ball around and/or bunting?
Not a fan of the minimum of 3 batters rule. Think 2 batters makes more sense. What if a pitcher just doesn’t have it on a given day? Now you essentially have to load the bases or send him to a faux DL stint? Seems dumb. That’s not a big problem with the game. I get not wanting 1 hitter pitchers, but 2 hitters seems far more reasonable than 3.
Ones that can't get out RHBs. Dramatic effect based on importance? Though, Altuve should be much larger if that were the case.
