You guys can use this thread to actually talk about all the triple doubles Simmons gets. I'm only here to share this terrible secondary headline from NBA.com: "Ben Simmons is the first player to reach 15 triple-doubles in the fewest games." Not to pick nits, but I can pretty much guarantee the first player to reach 15 also did it in the fewest games.
lulz but, wtf, when you click the link and play the video they show this stat, and tell us how Oscar did it faster
Simmons got really overrated. He's a good young player (with some big flaws), but not even close to Embiid's level. Triple-doubles are meh... especially in this era of basketball where the points, rebounds and assists are inflated due to a higher pace most teams play.
You mean vs the '90 and '00s? Pace was *much* faster in Magic's and Oscar's era. The league average Pace in '85 (102.1) would be 5th in the league this year....and it would have led the league by a big margin in Simmons first year. And Oscar's pace was probably ridiculous because of no defense played then (stats unavailabl), besides him making a mockery of Triple Doubles by playing 46 minutes, too.
There's no defense in today's game. Getting a triple double is pretty meaningless when compared with back in the 90s and 00s.
don’t care about triple doubles unless they come with 50+ points...Harden has made all these little 20 and 30 point triple doubles obsolete, they’re not impressive
Interesting, I wasn't aware of that. What do you think of the emphasis on the 3PT shooting though? My guess would be that the decreased FG% due to long range shooting would result in more rebounds (possibly assists too since there are less ISOs and postups?).
