You can't even get mad at the guy, he's beyond humble and is just doing what's best for his family. I was personally hoping he'd stay or retire as that has been discussed prior, but for $30M, what else are you going to do?

The Next Offseason is going to be bad, Free Agent Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole
Arbitration George Springer, Carlos Correa, Alex Bregman, a lot of pay days.

From MLBTradeRumors.com, I have no idea how reputable they are but in this link they also link to an article from last month saying we offered a 1+1 deal, dollar amount unclear.

Those Shoulder issues, plus lasting only 5 innings, plus sitting out with fatigue and injuries. The bullpen got overworked in his starts.

Goodbye and good luck to CFM. He was money for the Stros in 17.

What? He averaged 5.5 innings per start last year and missed all of 4 starts. The bullpen had to face about one extra hitter per start compared to Keuchel, or 2 more than Cole or Verlander. It's doubtful anyone we replace him with will consistently go much deeper. He had all of 4 starts over the past 2 seasons combined where he went less than 5 innings - he was basically as consistent as it gets.

I don't think I've ever seen a player leave any Houston franchise via free agency where the fans give the player this many well wishes, "good for you's" "go get paid's" and "good luck's" I think it's a testament to what a great guy Charlie is and how well he carried himself in interviews, in the clubhouse, and on the mound. Even when a guy leaves on good terms, there's always a little bit of salt (no pun intended) that the player is leaving.

Like everyone else, I will miss him around here, but I am so happy he got his big cash reward, and I want to see him succeed in TB.

    Charlie F'n Morton!!

This makes me sad, but business is business and I will always remember '17.

Stros took him off the junk heap, when he thought he might just retire, gave him a 2-year deal that people laughed at, and turned Charlie Morton into Charlie ****ing Morton.

He'll always be one of my favorite Astros.

I feel bad for the rest of his life. With the Astros winning every world series from here on out, he's going to need therapy for what coulda been.

Too Soon. Don't sleep on the Rays, they won 90 last year.

Speaking of Charlie, what is yall's all-time favorite hardass Astro rotation?

    Danny Darwin
    Charlie Morton
    Shane Reynolds
    Joe Niekro
    Mike Hampton

Favorite non-hardass Astro pitcher....Charlie Kerfeld. May not have been more than a shiny rookie, but he had some fun.

He can be the bullpen coach. Loved them Coneheads, and 86 was an amazing year to be a fan.

I get it from a business and financial point of view, so I am happy he is making one last check.

But damn, to say that this does not make me sad would be a flat out lie. Dude was everything, and more, we needed from him these last two years. Injuries aside, he still was extremely serviceable and a great locker room guy.

I don't even have to mention his games against the Yankees and Game 7 of the WS run. Dude will forever be a Houston legend. A huge part of me didn't want him to leave, and just go for it again next year.

It is what it is. Houston will always love you Charlie.
