It doesn't have to be a star level player.
Maybe a young player on a rookie contract for just Chriss/firsts or with filler if Knight is included.
Some teams that are a few years away from competing may rather have the picks at this point.
Maybe 2-3 veteran players that can contribute to Rockets winning now...
    Lots of options...

Yeah, Gordon didn't really mesh well with Lou. I noticed the same. Just didn't get into rhythm and it effected his game.

He's just such a "role" player in the sense that he can really really excel when in the right role, that doesn't ask too much or too little of him - see the 6th man. But he can also just be a ho hum role player or worse when he doesn't understand the role, or the role has been adjusted so that you're asking more of him than he can handle just from a bball IQ perspective given his overall talents. It's not meant as an insult, but rather it is what it is.

I want to think it'll get better - and just based on averages alone it should - but on the whole, I don't see him getting back to amazing 6th man EG as long as Melo is here.

The reason Gerald Green works as the next man up, even with EG, is because there is no confusion for him (EG) regarding pecking order, and Gerald is truly a super minimal touch player at this point. He gets it and either shoots a three or moves the ball quickly. Which is different than adding Sweet Lou or Melo, clearly.

Another Melo impact. Messing up the bench chemistry...

You should post more often bro. Your observation about EG getting confused is right on the money.
His height precludes him from being a starting 3 on the Rockets, unfortunately.

All true, but we can't blame Melo for that. I do expect EG to get traded quickly, perhaps even for a good but inferior player, who can fit better with the team. Morey shouldn't go for another shooting guard, even with Harden being out. I want EG to play like he did in the playoffs against GS so badly...

Well... to be fair, some of these things are obvious, imo.

And with EG, even moreso, cause you can literally see inside the dude's brain when he's out there. When he feels comfortable its fluid. When he's a little confused role wise, you can see him just thinking "should I shoot this or drive?"... then when he drives, "oh no, too many defenders, should i try and be a playmaker?" (no, EG, you shouldn't, lol). His game just seems a half a second slow.

    It's indirect blame.

It's not Melo's fault anymore than it was Sweet Lou's. But it is indirectly because of them being there and changing EG's role and rotations, etc.

EG at his best is one of the best 6th men in the league. Sure, having MORE GREAT depth is always good. But I'm not sure why they've been so eager to turn EG into a 6th/7th man.

Definitely, Gordon should be clearly ahead of Melo in terms of pecking order, and i'm not sure that's the case as today.

Funny enough Melo has played better than Gordon so far this season.

ego had terrible 3pt percentages for majority of the months last year....it wasnt much of a problem

this year cp3 and harden played only 1 full game together

    small sample size

Maybe Aaron Gordon? He can defend the wing, shoot the 3, Rebound, Block shots, and play small ball C. He's basically what Marquese Chriss is supposed to be.

I donno, he's always been a streaky shooter, but its at the rim thats a problem. Gordon wouldnt be an issue if he could just finish through contact like did last season. I think it prolly has something to do with him trimming down in the off season.

He just signed an 84 million dollar extension and he is statistically a horrendous 3 point shooter. Are you sure thats a good idea?

its a small sample size... there were stretches of several games last year where he wouldnt drive at all or very rarely

He shoots as well as Draymond Green and is 22. He also matches the salaries of Chriss, Knight, and Nene.

Yea but either, I dont think its because of Melo because all I'm seeing is that he's taking the same shots as last year, just missing.

I don't think there is any problem with Gordon, Capela and Tucker.

Do you think all 30 teams small forward bench is better than Ennis?

@cyberx anything new? Seems quiet on the news front today. If a trade was going to be agreed upon with Chriss or Knight being combined, I don't imagine it would be held back to announce until Wednesday.
