Normally hasty deals means worse results. However I wonder if the owner's demand to get it done with by tomorrow will end up raising the price instead of lowering it. Impulsive GMs and owners, urgency to agree or else he will be gone in a few hours, endless leaks by minny of other teams' names involved..
if we’re looking for a 3rd team to take that hideous contract then we might as well toss any Jimmy Butler dreams in the trash
Wow. You would make a terrific GM for a perennial 1st round fodder/14th pick team. And understand how to do that very well. But yeah I'm the one who don't know my head from my ass. Not because your "CJ McCollum is 2 years younger" argument is weak and wanting. Why would the Blazers, which is $30 million over the cap and $22 million into the luxury tax, hang on to a 6-3, shoot-first small guard making $25.8 million in the upcoming season and is known for offense (17 PER, .536 TS%) who is functionally 80% the same as the team's cornerstone, ever, ever, trade for a big 6-8 swing man two-way player (23.7 PER, .590 TS%) who can guard 3 positions? Unless they don't understand that they're all capped out, and to get over the hump, they need to break up trash brothers west. Some people understand it takes balls to improve, while others take comfort in the cocoon of eternal mediocrity, or being conference champion is good enough of a prize. For the Rockets' sake, I do hope the Blazers FO shares your view and keep their trash brothers west tandem intact.
That locker room will be tense for a whole year, Melo and Butler, can you imagine. At least we have Nene the bodyguard and Tucker to keep the egos in check, but there’s only so much they can do. Where’s Mutombo?
How much money the Rockets will have if they get rid of Gordon's and Tucker's contract and Butler bolts? I can see two scenarios.. Rent Butler for a season and sign and trade him.. or trade for Butler and trade him again at the deadline for assets for a bigger move in the offseason.. Perhaps it's some replaces during a buyout period.
Pretty much nothing, Harden and Paul alone will make something around 75/80M combined, 16/17 by Clint and the salary cap will jump at 108.
I'm curious if we're gonna trade the NBA Rights to Sergio Llull for Jimmy Butler. Maybe this could save us from offering Tucker? What do you guys think?
And of course you make no mention that Butler is an upcoming free agent. Whether you like his game or not CJ is not untradable and is their second best asset. If they have to get rid of him they won’t risk it for possibly 1 year rental that won’t lead them to much.
This has been obvious for a while but I am really glad @Codman put his stamp on this to officially cement it. Harden and Tucker been traveling a lot together. They have that love of fashion. They have their "pre game" cat walk to the locker room thing. They look like best buds. Great camaraderie!
I am more inclined to believe Codman in that we would get involved in a Butler trade in order to get other players we like (whether from Minnesota or a third team), in part because I see Minnesota wanting to trade JB to the Eastern Conference. That way I leave the door open to be astounded if JB should wind up in Houston.
No chance of that happening in my opinion. Sergio Llull isn't interested in joining an NBA team. I'm hopeful that Tucker will be retained.
I went through the experiment of finding a team that could/would absorb that contract on Friday and found (in addition to a contingent of Saric fans) that Sacramento is the only real option for doing so.
