The 40-man was already full, so room had to be made. Any chance we see Ted for the last week against Toronto and Baltimore?
Correa down even further, this time to 6th. White is too low, though. Looks like my theory that he bats higher when playing 1B may have some truth. Hope to see Straw play today as a pinch runner.
Maybe if we all think happy thoughts about Correa...he will turn it around? A big game from him tonight perhaps? You can do it, Carlos!
IDK why people keep talking about Correa. Regardless of how you feel about his performance and whether or not he is helping right now, FACT is we need his elite production to go all the way. And if he is playing that means he needs to play to get better. If he needed rest to get healthier he would not be playing considering how putrid he has been. What should be criticised is how Hinch still has no clue that Reddick has no business playing, matter of fact at 13M a year his contract is so terrible it should be top priority to be traded so that we have money to spend on extending guys IMO our OF should be: CF Marisnick RF Springer LF Kemp With Gonzalez being the "6th man", playing on specific Pitching matchups, guys struggling at the plate and considering his ability to play almost every position.
When someone is struggling we bash them mercilessly until they turn things around, at which point we take credit for their success.
Correa was already getting a lot of back-handed love around here when he was good... with everybody moaning about how he's likely already signing a contract with the Yankees (even though he can't be a free agent for 4 years). Now, when he's struggling, its easier for some to kick him to the curb. But, all of these guys end up getting a ton of hate, regardless of who they are, provided they're struggling. See the Bregman thread from last year, where people who had seen him in public thought he was a jackass (back when he was struggling). Springer is the quinticential love/hate relationship... just look at the WS for prime evidence. Altuve has had a 3 year run of extreme dominance... with batting titles and an MVP... and even he won't be immune to some questions regarding his huge contract, if he happens to have a bad post-season or starts piling up injuries. Keuchel's down year has already gotten more than enough crap for him.
As stated in this thread Marwin and bregs could slide into SS and you could platoon reddick kemp and marisnick around springer in the outfield. Correa is still in the infield rotation but primarily defensively and as a PH. Reddicks 0.7 WAR factors in his defense. 0.7 basically days you are an average player. I absolutely love reddicks defense but at the end of the day WAR does account for that. Incidentally marisnick has a slightly higher WAR than Correa this season. Given marisnick was terrible in April and may, we can surmise he has a significantly greater WAR than Correa post ASB. Regarding catcher my point wasn’t to replace McCann and Maldonado. It was that you already have a couple of players in the lineup in reddick and McCann/Maldonado who have low floors. When you have guys with low floors it can negate the efforts of some your stars. This was our main strength in 2017. We had very few easy outs and the bottom of the order was a significantly greater threat than what any other team had. McCann and Maldonado are clearly our 2 best catchers. That’s one spot in the lineup with a low floor that can hurt the team offensively. Removing Correa from the lineup helps minimize the number of low floor guys we have. We actually have options with Correa as marwins best defensive position is SS and bregs is a great SS. Creating an optimal lineup should be the goal right? That Correa is being moved further and further down the lineup tells you what hinch and luhnow think. At some point it becomes foolish to keep playing a 469 ops hitter in your lineup. We aren’t that far away... we really aren’t and I think hinch and luhnow are moving closer towards it.
Why is this true? We have been scoring runs at a decent clip with Correa at 469 OPS. We have a lot of guys who can pick up the slack. Yuli, Marwin, Altuve, Springer. Tyler white. You can’t just keep trotting a guy out there who is at this level of poor play offensively. We have no way of knowing if it’s timing, residual injury, mental roadblock, etc. At some points all that matters is results. That’s what analytics is all about.
I am not sure what you expect. With the playoffs 2 weeks and change away, a guy who we count on is hitting south of .170 for the last 5-6 weeks. You dont think that will be talked about? How can his performance over that time be characterized differently than it has been portrayed? Its been abysmal. Terrible. Bad. We know it. Carlos knows it. Everyone knows it. So it cant be a big stretch to start to wonder what is in the best interest of the team in regards to winning in the playoffs. That said, no one here will have a say in the matter. So there is nothing at stake to what is said or thought here. This isn't about kicking someone to the curb or hating them, at least I do not think it is with the vast majority of those that have spoken up on the subject. I think its mostly a vocal externalization of internal frustration. I can see how many things said here can be read in different ways. I am not totally incapable of reading it like your saying it. I do get it. As for most else, there are just those "glass half empty" comments that surface on every blog, by every poster at times, every forum and topic. Yea, the Correa goes to NYY in 5 years bla bla bla was silly. But so what that someone said it? It definitely wasn't hate or throwing him under a bus. If anything, it was praise in the sense that he might be too good a player to afford to hold onto.
the skycam above MMP never gets old. Too bad those poltergeists get loose during the regular season. It's Bagwell night in the booth! rated pg-13
