Oakland just 4 games back. Keep waiting for them to flatten out but that's just not happening. Boston going for a 4 game sweep to bury the Yankees in the AL East race.

The month of August will be huge with so many games against Oakland and Seattle. Sucks that half the roster is on the DL at this point of the season, but hopefully the AAAA guys catch fire and the Astros bury the A’s and Mariners going into September.

When you started this thread, the Stros had only McCann and 1 All-Star on the DL. Now they have McCann and 5 All-Stars on the DL.

I hope you see what you did here.

I also had a rather strong stance against jinxes in the HEB thread...all sorts of bad mojo. Astros have only lost a half game off their 5 game division lead since this thread was started, it's just against a different team now.

The A's are already down to the Dodgers. Would like to see the Dodgers get a mini sweep on them. SEA got lit up by the Rangers...

Dodgers added another run. I'm watching the A's broadcast and listening to them talk about the Astros. They said the Giants almost helped us two games in the row but Houston just added homeruns at the end of games. Gave credit to Astros on what they have done with all their injuries.

Houston now has a 2.5 game lead in the division and is 4 games from being out of the postseason

Can the team put the players up in a hotel so they feel like they are on road?

It's absolutely ridiculous that Cleveland is 4 games behind the 3rd seed in the Wild Card race, yet they're 16 games ahead in their division.

Top 9, OAK 7, SEA 3. Bases loaded and nobody out. Treinen about to enter.
Let's see if the Mariners can capitalize on this opportunity, I'd like to see Oakland's momentum cut down before our road trip there (though at least we do hit well at the Coliseum). OAK ahead of SEA so I'd like to see them fall further behind us, then if we win the series there we can create some distance.

EDIT: Oakland wins 7-6. With that, they creep closer. Definitely rooting for the Mariners the next two games so the Athletics don't get any closer. Then hopefully we can win some games there to defend the lead.

I’m of the opposite opinion. I’d like to see Oakland burn their premiere relievers against Seattle. So I’d like to see the A’s win this series. Then the Dodgers can take care of Seattle for us before we head there for a 3 game set.

Familia did not do well (3 BB, 0 outs), and while Treinen (in a non-save) finished it off, it was no easy task, as he allowed three inherited runners to score and gave up two hits and threw a wild pitch despite getting all three outs on strikeouts. While watching the 9th, I was also kind of rooting for the game to go into extras, though the third game would obviously be the best one to do so.
Ideally, I want the A's and M's to both make the Wild Card Game, and the Yankees to be shut out entirely. With Judge hurt, Severino doing poorly, the team as a whole trending down, and all those September games against the Red Sox, it may happen. They deserve it after all the "We're better than the Astros" showboating they did last offseason.

*After 119 games, the 2018 Astros are 73-46. After 119 games, the 2017 Astros were 73-46. The difference is their competition.

2018 AL West after the Astros' 119th game:

    Houston: 73-46
    Oakland: 71-48 (2.0 GB)
    Seattle: 69-51 (4.5 GB)
    Anaheim: 60-60 (13.5 GB)
    Arlington: 53-68 (21 GB)

2017 AL West after the Astros' 119th game:

    Houston: 73-46
    Anaheim: 61-59 (12.5 GB)
    Seattle: 60-61 (14 GB)
    Arlington: 58-60 (14.5 GB)
    Oakland: 53-67 (20.5 GB)

They way we've played at home this year, I'm kind of hoping for away-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
