I've always been a casual poker player, but recently I've played a couple times with friends and then on line at www.thepokerforum.com in the free games section and I think I'm addicted.

In the past I always played 5 card draw or 7 stud but after watching the World series of Poker, I don't want to play anything but Texas Holdem. How cool is it that THE poker game is named after Texas.

Any players among us? Anyone every play at a casino? A small buy-in no limit tourney is my next step after I clean my friends out a few more times. :D

Yes it is. When you say "in Houston" I'm assuming you mean with friends.

    In a nut shell...

Everyone is delt 2 cards face down (reffered to as your pocket cards).

Everyone has a chance to bet, raise, or fold.

The dealer burns one card then turns 3 cards over face up in the middle of the table (This is called the flop)

Everyone has a chance to bet raise or fold.

The dealer burns one card and turns another card over face up with the other 3 already in play (this card is sometimes reffered to as 4th street)

Everyone has a chance to bet raise of fold.

The dealer then burns one card and turns the last card over face up with the other 4. (this card is referred to as the River)

Everyone has a chance to bet raise or fold.

Hands are revealed and the winner takes the pot.

You make your hand using any combination of your pocket cards and the table cards.

Read the rules at www.thepocketforum.com and play a free game before you play for that kind of money or you will be sorry.

Anyone watching the Main Event on espn? I've really been enjoying the coverage. Hope the kid from Houston can hang on and win. Btw...the tenth place elimination a few nights ago was insane...AA vs. KK vs. KK.

Heads up play for the main event is very entertaining.

Any online real money poker sites still going? Are they good? Are they illegal? Last time I checked they were just in discussions on where her or not to make it legal.

I couldn't stay awake for the finale, was rooting for Cynn, and he kept getting bluffed. But it was a good psychological battle in the first half. Saw Cynn's boring ass interview afterward, but think he overall was the more interesting character of the two, and seemed to have a strong grasp of the game. So glad he won. But thought it was pretty even.

I didn't even attempt to stay awake for the final two. I knew they would go back and forth...Cynn and Miles seemed to have a nice friendship going throughout the tournament.

My wife and I were pulling for Dyer (the guy from Houston who finished third). During interviews, he was as boring as a doorknob...but when he was getting cards, he was a freakin' machine. After Dyer, we were pulling for Cynn. Pretty incredible that he finished 11th (?) a few years ago and then won this year. Likewise with Cada's story.

Got into No Limit back when it boomed during the Moneymaker/Raymer Main Events. Stopped following the Main Event for a few years (still play occasionally but not like before) but found my way back during this years event. As a result I made my way to one of my local casinos and ended up 100 bucks with my big hand being pocket fours that turned to quads on the turn. I was first to act so I bet light on the flop and turn and have been kicking myself for checking the river and giving the field a chance to act and come over the top of them as it got checked down and what could have been a very big payout for me was lost.

There are plenty of sites to play on. I play on America's Cardroom myself.

Poker rooms are now legal in Texas, it is only a matter of time until Uncle Sam wises up and gets on the tax train.
