Lucas gives you most of what Capela does, minus rebounding, but even better rim protection, for much cheaper. But that's just one example and besides the point. The real deal is if you want to beat GS, any of these centers will be run off the court and rendered useless in the pnr(switch). You are going to have to play small anyways with Tucker at the 5. So tying up near max at that spot absolutely kills your team. Capela has tremendous value right now. He is the most straightforward path to upgrading the team. Gotta cash in.
Sign and trade capela and EG for a disgruntled star like Kawhi. He's a good player with lots of potential but I don't think he will ever learn to shoot. His free throws are as bad as they ever were despite supposedly working on them for the past couple of years. We will see what his value really is this off season. Doesn't appear to be much so far which is why I think we would have to include both him and EG to deal for a legitimate star.
You have a point there, but what about the path to the WCF vs Worriers? You have to get there to face the Champs again. Capela was a major key.....with just Chris and Harden I think the team will have major problems unless you suggest Nogueira is posting 15 ppg 11+ rbg as Capela did. Which is a stretch for now.
I'm not suggesting you let him go for free. The whole point is to cash in and trade him for a REAL third star. Nogeuira(or whoever) can fill in at C and cover 80% or 60% or whatever, and sit in crunch time just like Capela.
But you can get rid of Anderson's 20 million contract plus Eric Gordon to get the borderline Allstar as well. All theoretical. But you have to sign someone better than MCW to pair him up with the 3 stars.
I think your plan has merit but Bebe is a back up 5 right now. He can rim protect, rim run, etc. but he is foul prone and poor switch defender. Not saying he can't improve but he is no where near the player or fit that Clint is now. Perhaps if your proposed trade included acquisition of Willie Cauley-Stein in addition to a 3rd superstar like Kawhi, Jimmy Butler or AG + Simmons.
Don't forget the worst one. When he signed Ryan Andersen to that contract . !@#@ Cost us a championship
Right. Gordon has stated himself that he looks for a starting job real soon, or he was looking forward to playing even more minutes. May it be with the Rox, which is doubtful or another team. Getting rid of Anderson, allows you to have 20 million for the next Free Agency.
His ft % has increased every year he has been in the league. I would hope and expect marginal improvement next season to be at 60% or right at it.
Gordon plus picks can net you an all star. Ryno will have to be traded for a worse contract in a separate trade.
No way. Anderson won't have too much left on his salary at the all-star break and he becomes an expiring next summer (net asset).
Not our picks. They might as well be second rounders and player that would want a Vet SG like Gordon are usually looking to solidify their playoff team so they aren't looking to send an all-star back. If Gordon were 24 they maybe a rebuilding team would but Gordon will be 30 before the All-star break and a team like Cleveland has no need for him.
Clint isn't perfect but he's far superior to Lucas. Clint out played some of the best centers in the league last year', while Lucas was a non factor. A poor rebounding 5 is never the answer on a championship roster. The Rox have to find a way to plug the $20 million hole in their roster that is Ryan Anderson.
The point is not comparing Clint with Lucas, he was just an example. The point is flipping Clint for a true third superstar(disgruntled and wanting to leave) - he is our only and best chance to upgrade the roster.
