Not so fast. Rubio is not playing the same role he played in Minny. Donovan's emergence has a lot to do with that, but mainly it's just not Snyder's offense to have a primary ball-handler setting everyone up. His offense has a lot more motion. Yeah, Rubio might bring the ball up the court the most, but making the first pass to start the motion and cutting isn't what we generally mean by Rubio being a playmaker. The stats bare this out, too. Rubio has significantly less Ast/gm versus any of his Minny years = 5.7 apg this year. The system is very different. Utah PnR Primary Ball-hander = Rubio 39% of his "possessions" and Donovan 38%, meaning as a volume stat, Donovan runs the PnR much more, due to higher Usage. If you eliminate his first month, Donovan increased this role even more Utah Spot up shooters. Rubio is 25% to Donovans 14% Shooting coming off screens or cuts is pretty low % for both. Obviously Donovan ISO's more. stats from NBA.com's Play Type query
Harden was in different situation, okc had 2 all starts already in russ and kd, he took the backseat durring those years, would harden have the same numbers had he been on different team?? well you never know if he was the guy for that team probably yes.
I said "an 82-game grind" and he couldn't even last 2 games as The Man. Again, I like this kid, but he still has a long way to go before being hailed as the next big thing.
The one thing I hated about how he was playing last night was he kept grabbing and wrapping up on screens and pulling jerseys every time he got beat/screened. I mean that’s a clear foul but hey, I guess if the refs won’t call it, keep doing it lol..
What Donovan Mitchell's Iverson comps mean for the Jazz [...] But here we are, which begs the question of what this means for the Jazz after this season. Though Iverson may not have led the 76ers to a title, the blueprint laid out in 2000-01 is already somewhat in place in Utah. Iverson may have been the face but defense was the 76ers' identity as that team finished in the top five in defensive efficiency for the third straight season. Rudy Gobert is unquestionably superior to either Theo Ratliff or midseason acquisition Dikembe Mutombo. Rubio (under contract through next season) is a rich man's Eric Snow, defensively stout and challenged from the outside but also better served alongside a Mitchell-type. And in an admittedly much different league today, Joe Ingles is leaps and bounds a superior spacer than anyone on that roster. Plus, Iverson never showed Mitchell's defensive potential. With key cogs set and time to attract another piece, who knows what shakes out in the West in the years to come. Golden State is 12 months away from tough, expensive decisions about its core, Houston is the second-oldest team in the league while both San Antonio and Oklahoma City are in flux. Although there's promise elsewhere in the West, there's no surefire up-and-coming power. Iverson eventually got his shot in the Finals, and unluckily for the Sixers they ran into a juggernaut from the opposite conference in the midst of a dynasty. Perhaps the same fate awaits Utah. Or maybe not. All you ask for is a puncher's chance. With Donovan Mitchell leading the way, it appears Utah may have found its answer.
Ironically Gordon Hayward was or is that piece ......but Gordon's future looks alright as Boston is a historic franchise.
It's all about the situation, a gifted player like Harden joins the Thunder when it had both KD and Wb, how the hell is Harden suppose to average what Mitchell did his rookie season?
