In an effort to bolster their backcourt situation, the Cleveland Cavaliers are expressing interest in a trade for Sacramento Kings guard George Hill, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Cleveland has emerged as an interested suitor, with the Cavaliers pursuing Hill to potentially slide into a dual-guard role, starting at either backcourt position or playing as a reserve, league sources said. Hill, 31, joined the Kings on a three-year, $57 million deal in July, but the franchise has transitioned toward a youth movement and has made clear to Hill and other veterans that the plan will be to play the young core moving forward. Sacramento has given primary point-guard duties to No. 5 overall pick De’Aaron Fox for the second half of the season. In 37 games this season, Hill has averaged 10.5 points, three rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 45.6 percent from 3-point range. He averaged 16.9 points and 4.1 assists for Utah a season ago. The Cavaliers are 27-17 this season after defeating Orlando 104-103 on Thursday night after losing eight of their previous 10 games.
Which poo-poo platter would you like? A. Tristan Thompson B. J.R. Smith & Iman Shumpert C. J.R. Smith & Channing Frye D. Iman Shumpert & Channing Frye
Kings already played their game in Boston this season so this won't work for Isaiah Thomas' schedule for a tribute video.
This is probably what the Cavs have in mind. It is also the neatest and cleanest way for the Kings to dump George Hill's contact. Good for both teams. Otherwise, adding Hill forces IT into a 6th Man role he does not want.
After looking, Frye is expiring Shumpert has a ($11,011,234) player option for next year Smith has two more years(2018-19/2019-20; 2019-20 salary $3.87M guaranteed until 6/30/19, then fully guaranteed) Thompson has two more years
Zizic, Osman and salary fillers like Shumpert should be enough for Hill. Kings would probably be ok just to dump the contract. Not sure how they can trade for DeAndre though, unless they're willing to move the Nets pick...maybe with Thomas? That would be interesting...i still don't think they'll move the pick. - Zizic, Osman and Shumpert for Hill - Thompson and Thomas for DeAndre Mmmh...
The most amazing part is that George Hill is ONLY 31... it seems like he has been an old veteran player for a decade. I am sure the Cavs would love to add DeAndre Jordan and George Hill, and DeMarcus Cousins and Lou Williams and any number of other players that are not JR Smith or Tristan Thompson or all the other garbage on that roster.
Isiaiah Thomas back to the Kings would be hilarious and sad. They never fully appreciated/embraced him there it seemed.
Windhorst: "The Cavs have had discussions about George Hill. The Kings are talking with other teams right now to clear roster spots, some of their younger players they want to send away, because I think they are getting poised to make a deal where they send Hill out and bring some players back in."
