Fits in well with the rest of the Rockets bigs. Calvin: How can you play bigs down the stretch and they can't shoot free throws? [Teams are] gonna hack every big man the Rockets have and the Rockets are going to lose possessions.
Thought I'd bump this, since Capela's free throws have improved (so far)....and Feigen gave us a nice video as to why Who says we don't have a shooting coach?
I'm glad this thread was bumped because Clint deserves much love for his FT success this year. I know we are looking at a very small sample size, but if he hits over 70% of his FTs this year then that is a huge help to this team. He doesn't attempt many FTs but not being a victim of the hack-a helps our offense a bunch. Has improved his FT% every year in the league. I'm hoping he makes around 75% FTs for the season.
Apparently, Capela's improved FTs is contributing to him being more aggressive. Makes sense. Rather than trying to finesse his finishes to get them off quicker before the foul, he gathers and goes strong, if the immediate dunk isn't there. Rockets' Clint Capela leads league in field-goal percentage By Jonathan Feigen, Houston Chronicle Published 11:05 am, Friday, November 3, 2017 "He's good," Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said of Capela's success finishing. "He's got stuff you can't teach, body control. He has a unique ability to catch and finish. His jump hook is nice. He's got a lot of stuff." D'Antoni said Capela's improvement from the line, from 17.4 percent as a rookie to 77.8 percent this season, has made him more assertive inside, an attitude that Capela described a mindset to attack the rim. "A lot of times, even when I miss, I try to be relentless and go after it," Capela said. "Of course, I'm not thinking about my percentage. I'm just trying to go hard every single time."
Confidence probably has a lot to do with it as well. He wasn't a good free throw shooter before but he is honestly not bottom of the league bad. I think once he got acclimated to the NBA environment and to his role he was a lot more comfortable at the line.
His improvement is insane. Meanwhile, Drummond made 14/16 tonight and is shooting 70% from the line on the season. If these guys can improve, why couldn't whats-his-face?
Deandre Jordan is shooting 60% and Andre Drummond is shooting 70% (14-16 vs bucks). It seems like the big men are getting their **** together.
The percentages are not what's important here, the thing to take away so far is Capela's form. He used to shoot it more like a rainbow which was just not accurate. Now he's shooting more with his wrist and I feel confident, I'm sure he does too , that it's going in as opposed to previous years where you didn't know what to expect.
