I hate to see Les go.

He just signed our star to a long term deal and he just signed the GM to an extension. Makes me think he wants continuity.
Guess he could think that stability increases value, but still that promotes stability.

That's what I was thinking! Evan better, have them both be on the ownership team.

Getting someone who knows the enviroment and the people working in it would be great. In the end it's Les who is going to decide the next owner, i hope he's going to consider eveything and take the best possible decision for the organization going forward.

Does this mean the logo and jerseys will finally be updated?!?!?!?!

On a more serious note - this sucks - crappy ownership can be crippling to a franchise (Kings, Suns, 76ers, Nets, Knicks, etc)

We should be super thankful that Les was still willing to spend $$$ and improve the team with this desire in the back of his head. Look on the other hand what Drayton McLane did to the Astros

They better find a single owner. Not multiple owners.
At the least just deal with impatience and inexperience and NOT infighting on top of it.
Do you know that the basic reason Hinkie got fired was becasue of the minority owners of the 76ers?
Do you know that almost every single leak that made the Kings look even worse, was because of the infighting of the minority owners?
Do you know that the scandal with Danny Ferry was because fo the minority owners in Atlanta?

Pretty sure who pays him the most will be the next owner.

Could this be a ploy to hurry up the Knicks? Do the trade soon or you may not have a trade partner.

This is almost certainly bad news.

Les sucked in a lot of ways. But he did get a lot of stars in Houston. That and who knows what this means for Daryl Morey in Houston.

It's not that I care about Les.

I don't want to lose the greatest GM in basketball if the new owner doesn't agree with Morey or whatever.

The owner is the owner and the GM is the GM. If an owner gives an order there is no GM in the league that will refuse to do what they are ordered. The most they can do is resign.
Morey as well. If the new owner orders something he has to make the move.
There would be no godawful trade with Boston that Billy King made if Prokhorov hadn't given the order to win now at all costs.

That's why ownership is the most important part of a franchise.

This sucks for the Rockets because Les was a great owner and not being split into a big ownership group is a big deal in the NBA. Almost no chance of getting a better owner out of this. I won't be surprised if we are going to see a franchise bubble burst soon and team values start to tank with the television rights bubble which will definitely burst in the next 5-15 years. I think we could see a lot of high profile owners make similar decisions to cash out now. This is especially true if they foresee significant tax increases on the horizon.

    Damn.

We all gave Les a little crap sometimes, but to me he has always been, at worst, in the top third of NBA owners.

This is rough news, but I'm glad he set some long-term plans in place before making the announcement.

Earlier in this thread I said I didn't get the Fertitta love. Did some research, ok I understand now. Still think his restaurants and amusement parks are crap, but he has deeper pockets than I thought ($2.4B in 2013) and he is a Houstonian through and through. He's even worked with the Rockets before. According to Wikipedia:
Guys like that spend to see their childhood team win.

It's been a good run with Les. Just hoping the next owner is as committed to winning as he was.
