I am not a fan of socialism, but I think healthcare for all should be a top government priority.

Wonder why Bernie's plan is so expensive? I mean, Canada spends almost half per capita. Surely those Canadians don't have the life expectancy of a Neanderthal. Imagine going to the doctor or the hospital and not seeing a bill. For almost half the cost. Gosh, sign me up. Let's see if our creditors on the Iraq-Democracy project will take a dump on the bill and we can use that 3 trillion credit to start up one of these single payer systems and have a go at it.

Do you seriously not remember the Obama years already? Have you forgotten the "it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." nonsense?

    How about this gem?

The theme of his entire presidency was essentially "good people agree with me, evil people oppose me for evil reasons.

You don't measure quality of healthcare by life expectancy. Too many external factors such as genetics, % population who smoke, sanitation system, etc..

though quality of healthcare is very hard to measure, most common metrics i see are wait times and infant mortality rate because they remove so much of the above mentioned issues. Canadian wait times are horrible

Imagine having a pinched nerve in your spine and waiting 5 months for surgery. In other words, the reason Canadians pay less is because they are getting a lesser product. When Canadians need real serious healthcare, they come to the US.

It's cool to cherry pick one metric and then proclaim that to be the end-all, be-all for quality of healthcare (even though you cherry picked two but only talked about one, infant mortality rate is better in Canada than the USA)

Holistically USA's healthcare is terrible vs nations with universal coverage

I would have thought this talking is no longer being used. I know a lot of Canadians and none of them are complaining about long waits or needed to go to the US for better health care. This myth has been going on for a long time.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ates-for-medical-care/?utm_term=.11186bc1f1a9

Additionally, please provide links were Canadian citizens (not newspapers) complaining about their health care system. If anything, majority of them are proud of their system and are laughing at us.

Its also cool to not publish your methodology or even justification for your methodology apparently.

ill let you read that and bask in the irony of your request.

No, I know several Canadians that have complained about their medical system. Primarily they have complained about the quality or care and they fact that they have to wait a long time for non life threatening surgeries and treatments. Having said that, they all feel their system is better than the USA system.

I don't think Sanders' healthcare plans are particularly viable, but it seems to me that if you were interested in an honest analysis instead of just parroting silly talking points, you'd mention all the other savings. Yes, federal health care spending would increase. What would taxpayers save on the flipside by eliminating their private health care costs, or state and local taxes saved? Why on earth, if you're actually interested in serious discussion, would you ignore all that when trying to discuss how it impacts the average taxpayer?

You claim that there is no definitive way to determine quality of healthcare, but conclude your post with a definitive statement "Canadians are getting a lesser product". Furthermore, you cited two metrics but only talk about one and use that as support for making your definitive statement. You can't maintain consistency in your own argument. I'm not even really trying, but have already picked apart your whole post.

    Reading material for you.

Because it is better. Wait / long time varies quite a bit by regions there, but it's not something you can't solve. Having universal care was something that was extremely hard to get to, and they got there... we haven't. We are well behind nearly everyone and that's where we need to get to. Let just said that many American think we need MAJOR reform and changes, while most in Canada and other countries such as Germany think they need minor changes.

    nope

Oh i missed the part where you told me about the awesome Canadian wait times. repost that. And if you don't like using a metric to measure quality of healthcare (I believe you misused the term 'cherry picked') why are you ok with the original poster using life expectancy?

People are genetically wired to complain about just about everything.

I think the truly telling evidence however is how many other advanced economies in the world that have a national healthcare program are trying to move to a privatized system like the US. I think none.

Agreed, wait times can blow, but then again so can a 20k bill for that same surgery. No system is perfect, but in the end if you get the care you need for half the cost, well, I'll just save half and then just complain about wait times. And not complain about ever again seeing a bill for medical care. I'm at least willing to try it.

As far as freedom, in Canada you can go to walk into any GPs office anywhere and get looked at in minutes. No restrictions on GPs. For a specialist, they do have to refer you however.
