...with a charter school cause http://www.houstonchronicle.com/spo...ach-Jeff-Van-Gundy-finds-a-cause-11153891.php
who else would attend a rice football game just for fun? JVG! that's who. When talking about the texans he uses "we" . "He speaks french now", Mark jackson replies.
That's the amazing part. The founder of pro-vision (ex-NFL guy?), Van Gundy and Van Gundy's Wife all visiting this area frequently and interacting with gang members. Both bold, and dedicated.
Roy Young is a hero and deserves a key to the City of Houston. Since 1990, his Manhood Program has unlocked the 'men' within many at-risk youth. Truly an inspiration.
After Van Gundy hung up the phone, he sat on a bed and reimagined Game 7: he would have refocused the team by calling a timeout after an offensive rebound; he would have won; he would have kept coaching. Ten years have passed and his failure in Houston still hangs on him like a sweat-soaked jersey. "That you didn't get it done, that never leaves you," he said. "Never." He has not coached since. "The pain of coaching is not the losing, to me. It's not even losing a job. It's the pain of letting down your players and the staff." Man...it hurts reading this. I wish he had another shot with the Rockets to redeem himself.
Great read. Thanks for posting. I grew up in the Sunnyside neighborhood right off Bellfort between Cullen and MLK (formerly South Park). My high school classmates from across the tracks (Mykawa Road) were afraid to come to my neighborhood after dark. Used to crack me up.
Wow. I remember attending ProVision off W Airport in the mid-90's. Didn't attend long, but they had a good cause. Glad they're still doing their thing.
In a perfect world, BOTH RudyT and JVG would be a part of the Rockets right now!!! Maybe not as headcoach's but in some capacity or another!!! Both these gentlemen are class acts that deserve more respect from the Rockets! RudyT for what he did in with the Rockets in the "Heart of a Champion" years and JVG for always representing Houston in a positive manner on national tv! Yes, I know JVG didn't deliver on a downtown parade, but he has shown time and time again where his heart is AND THAT is just as important to me as a Rockets Fan! GO ROCKETS!!! ....... ....... .......
Hard to believe JVG's last game coached was that blow out loss in 05. It must sting like the dickens...
