Many people speak highly of Texas Mattress Makers. We went one time. The sales guy told us what mattress we needed. Told him I wanted good price. We left and came back. Seen different sales guy. He gave me higher price for same bed. I told him dont play games. He said okay and gave me better price than first guy. What pissed me off was the fact that they claimed to be no haggle priced. Rolls eyes.

I have a Casper. Loved it for the first year (maybe 6-9 months). Then it went in (temp-controlled) storage for a year. Now it's so-so.

The 100-day return policy on all these mattresses make them a no-brainer IMO to try. Just be sure to give them 7-14 days to break you in before deciding it's a bad fit. That's a good policy for any mattress and why they do the long return policies. But even more important for foam mattresses.

I'm thinking about switching to GhostBed, Purple, or Helix to check one of them out.

Got a Casper about 4 months ago and enjoy it...Can try it out at West Elm as someone else pointed out. Quick shipping and good customer service.

Bought a tempurepedic. Like, don't love it, wouldn't recommend it. Play around with the cheap online ones instead and find one you like. Tempurpedic is WAY overpriced and overhyped.

Thinking of replacing an very old Posturepedic with a mail order mattress. Looking at Leesa, Purple, and Ghost. Leaning towards Ghost as I weigh about 215 and I worry with the softer mattresses like Casper I'd sink through the first layer too deep. Don't know how realistic but also like that the Ghost as a 20 year warranty versus 10 for the others.

Don't think I will get the foundation. Might look at Ikea for a simple frame with wood slats (got one with a foam mattress at Ikea for my daughter). You have to build the Ikea frames too but think they are cheaper.

Hey @JuanValdez did you look at other mattresses before getting the Ghost? How is it re: heat?

We looked at a bunch of reviews and brands online, but we didn't try anything else physically before committing on Ghost. On heat, I don't have much to compare it to other than the spring mattress I had before, but I haven't had any complaints yet (though of course I haven't been through a summer with it yet).

Something else I think we'd be remiss to not mention in this thread though, is that mattresses are also used for sex. I think my old spring mattress was better for this, but I don't really fault Ghost, I just think foam is not the best. Foam gives you good support when you're laying down, but if you're standing on kneeling or otherwise putting a lot of pounds per square inch, you sink too deep. On the flip side, it's quiet. Here's a review site that evaluates brands for sex: http://sleepopolis.com/best-mattress/best-mattress-for-sex/

Thanks, I saw the same reviews. Also appreciate the comments re:sex. I like how some reviews give polite names for it. Also like the reviews by a few young couples where you know they worked the mattresses over pretty well. Me and my better half are pretty old at this point... so sleep is by far the most important criteria to us. :D

Folks, JV is a gentleman who truly understands the most important qualities a new mattress should have!

 Woah! Hang on there, fella! As an antique myself, I have to disagree about the "age/SEX" thing. We stay very busy. I've mentioned before somewhere in Hangout that I help keep the makers of Viagra in business. Science is your friend! And if your insurance doesn't want to pay for them, or only gives you 8 a month (not nearly enough, in my humble opinion), take a trip to Mexico for a "vacation." They sell them there without a prescription, and then just toss them in your checked luggage. Viagra is NOT what customs is looking for, or cares about.

I have bought the Purple, Helix, and Yoga bed. They all pretty much come the same way rolled up. They all come with that 100 day or so return policy. The only problem is that all these beds keep hurting my wifes back. I think she needs a spring mattress. But out of all of them I think the purple one was the best. It also came with a free cushion if you order through some referrer. Yoga was probably the worst. The helix is good you can customize to each persons body type, but in the end I didn't feel much difference in the customization.

I hate that the same mattress by the same manufacturer is called something different at different stores... price matching is almost impossible. Lol.
