This is another pretty interesting conversation about Beard. I can't believe it but all 3 are actually giving him props, calling out haters saying his #s are just a product of the MDA system, and commending his improvement on D. From Nichols especially this is shocking. I'll take it. So glad they're giving the guy a fair shake finally.

I thought Harden deserved the MVP in 2015, but I understand why Curry won it. It's not simply the "best player on the best team" narrative. There's also the degree that GSW was better. GSW won 11 more games than the Rockets that year. That's a big gap. In fact, that was also the number of wins separating the 2nd seed Rockets from the 9th seed Thunder.

Uh... facts are facts. This is not tearing Westbrook down, but calling a spade a spade. Westbrook is less efficient (more shots at worse shooting across the board), just as turnover prone, and his team actively boxes out for him to get rebounds a lot of the time. Subjectively, he often makes terrible decisions and is an overrated defender, which are all positions that very, very legitimate arguments can be made for.

The only real edge that Westbrook has on Harden is that he has a much more flashy or "passionate" playing style that makes Harden's seem lethargic in comparison. When fans and media watch Westbrook, they see high flying, vicious dunks and acrobatic layups. They see chest pounding and screaming. They see raw energy being exuded. With Harden, they see almost slow rocking back and forth before a very brief explosion past an off balanced defender to make his way again and again to the basket for either an easy layup, foul, or lob. It's just less flashy, however more efficient it actually is.

Westbrook is a better defender than Harden. I will always give him that. He is also an incredible player. Harden is simply better. It is also ironic and damning that the argument used to support Curry is now being reversed for Harden.

If there was a year to share it this would be it. But if someone has to win it then Harden getting the 2 seed or 3 seed should be enough.

Most MVP winners are from a top 3 team. Big O missed MVP in his triple double season because his team was around 50% win.
If NBA is consistent about that rule, then Westbrook is not a top Candidate.

    Don't look now.

All of a sudden, Okc is in 7th place in the west and have a brutal schedule coming up.

They are who we thought they were, I think.

The MVP conundrum: When a voter feels Westbrook should win it because he had to do more for his team to win and Harden has a supporting cast to help. Yet, (as mentioned on here before) Harden was exactly that 2 years ago and was beat out by Curry. So if the voter recognizes that Harden should have won it in 2015 then does that voter go with his assessment and votes Westbrook or tries to rectify the issue and vote Harden this year?

Funny how all the rockets did was missed out on their prime targets of hortford and bazemore and had a backup plan of picking up injury prone Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon and losing Dwight and Dmo and having to play our 2nd year players and yet we have a better team than OKC. Maybe it's because Harden makes the game so much easier for his teammates and allowing the players to score in optimal positions.

Just maybe, who had the Rockets playing this well with the pieces we got, not even rockets fan. And now the Rockets are gelling and showing a lot of team chemistry and playing out of their minds; it's because the Rockets have too good of a team. Anyways Harden definitely deserves the MVP at this point.

Okc big men box out their opponents and funnel the rebounds to Westbrook to allow him to get the ball out quicker which is why WB has the highest uncontested rebound percentage. I just think his rebound numbers are a bit skewed because of that.

sounds like Harden's not gonna get many votes for the players' MVP from the Wiz . . .

That's not a Wiz player, that must be Wiz Khalifa, 'cause he's obviously high.

This crap infuriates me. The media are a just a huge circle jerk. No originality and they all just spew the same crap everyone is saying. A couple of weeks ago during the D-Mo stuff, Sam Amick called in to 790 and was questioned about Harden not making an all NBA team and said that elite players play both sides of the ball. I tweeted Clampton to ask him " if elite players play both sides, did he vote for Curry?

His answer was basically " he at least tries on defense and his team doesn't require him to be a good individual defender" WTF??? How can you hold one player to one standard but completely ignore it for another?

The winning narrative doesn't really take much precedence early because the season is still so young. As the season goes on, and the positions become more set, its importance increases.

I understand why curry won mvp in '15 as well and it didnt have anything to do with basketball.

Look at both player teams. Harden didnt have Howard for half the season and beat out the great team spurs for 2nd place in the ultra competitive West.

Curry had an allstar team, and those wins wasnt solely because of curry but Houstons impressive success was solely because of Harden.

Take curry off that team and they stil the 1 seed or top 3 team easily. Take Harden off that team and we a lottery team. No comparison.

Curry was the cute pick of the dumb media but the players and coaches choice for MVP that year was unanimous for Harden.

Those that know basketball knows Harden was far and away the MVP.

Strangely enough Westbrooke is going to have an easier time winning over voters just from averaging a triple double. He does not have to win too many games, just be above 7th in the West.
Even though Harden is making his case extremely strong with the numbers and 3rd seed, I can see why Westbrooke would take the crown instead. The reason being is Westbrooke is putting non-repeatable numbers like Wilt's 100 points or 55 rebounds. To alot, averaging a triple double like the big O is magnificent.
As many as there today, getting even one triple double was and is very difficult that even stat-padding won't work.

Morris twins are really good friends with Harden though.
