He totally kissed every member of the team on the cheek as they were walking in! If that ain't love, lol
The kiss is a little weird, but it does break down barriers fast like a hug or pat on the back does, and that generally is a good thing for bonding and coming together. I could buy into it. It also makes teaching easier. At the NFL level, player coaches die because the players get sick of your schtick after about 4 years. But at the NCAA level it's only 4 years so I think it works.
They keep saying last night that we are an overnight success under Herman, but that is far from the truth. We've been very good for a long time now. Over the last 10 years we have 88 wins, that ranks 20th amongst all of college football. It took a long time to build this thing to where it is now.
The talent was definitely there with Levine as we saw the last two years, the coaching was just really average.
It's hard to quantify the Levine era. Offense: D+ The only thing that kept this from being a big fat F was the one decent year we squeezed out of Meachem/O'Korn. Bush was just putrid, and the Nesbitt fiasco was embarrassing. Defense: B David Gibbs was the only bright spot of the entire Levine era. Jamie Bryant wasn't terrible, but the offense hung the defense out to dry so often it was a virtual no-win situation. Special Teams: C For a coach with a special teams background Levine really didn't impress here. Coverage teams were generally lackluster. Richie Leone was a good punter, but that was about it. Recruiting: B- We landed our first bluechip recruit in forever with Deontay Greenberry, who had a generally good career and left early. Not much to say here. He kept the ship afloat at least. ETC: F Levine was not a "gameday" coach. He wasn't good at clock management, in game adjustments, or otherwise. He was a "players coach". They loved him, but they walked all over him. Lots of discipline issues.
Pretty much, yeah. If Louisville stays undefeated till the UH game and UH beats them, UH waltzes into the playoff.
But Texas wasn't, and from the way things are looking.... I think he's waiting to see what happens with Strong and Sumlin. Just my opinion.
I would normally root for Clemson, but in this case, Louisville is better for the Cougars. If Louisville does lose, Houston will likely be playing a top 10 Louisville instead of a Top 3. It's not bad at all, but I don't want this committee to have any excuses as it seems everyone in the media is looking for one. Plus getting rid of one team ahead of us, in Clemson, moves us up. I'd like to see them not put the AP#1 Houston Cougars in the playoff, cause that is where this is headed.
Given the fact that several high profile coaching jobs could open up this year, are y'all worried that you could lose the entire coaching staff?
Actually, I'm saying you could potentially lose Herman, Orlando, and Applewhite. It's not likely but not impossible at this point.
Expecting Washington to jump us in the AP poll this week. Possibly even Wisconsin if they win. Bright side is loser of Louisville/Clemson should drop below us (and possibly even Michigan if Wisconsin wins). So I'm expecting us to stay at 6th.
Several of the jobs might be high profile, but not very good jobs. LSU is a train wreck with boosters and the AD interfering with the job so I'd completely dismiss that, UT is not much better....I mean look what it did to Charlie Strong who was the Tom Herman of 2013, now it's 3 years later and his reputation is in the toilet due to taking that job. Personally I think Herman will choose to stay at UH over cancerous jobs at "high profile" schools....unless he just wants to jump at it for the money like Sumlin did.
I personally think the only jobs Herman would leave for this year would be Texas or USC because those are apparently on his short list of desired jobs. I don't think he cares about LSU, Notre Dame, or Auburn.
