Well said, thumbs, except for the obituary part. If this forum "died," it would be a disaster. D&D serves a purpose by keeping these topics out of Hangout and elsewhere. I'll add that this thread, in my opinion, isn't intended to be a home to the "back and forth" we see in the rest of the forum, but rather to promote civility. Your post is a fine example for others to follow.
The ignore button works much more effectively now. Not seeing a lot of the gibberish posters is a welcome improvement.
It does work much better, it might actually save this forum once all the trolls realize no one is reading their posts.

I have to say it was much better being on the other side of the spectrum in terms of debate - folks like you, invisible fan, major, and many others always listened first and could explore nuances with respect. You don't see that from the right and anti-Muslim posters on here - who deal in absolutes and when confronted with facts respond with talking points and insults.
