There is probably a thread for this ,but where in the heck is the search function ? So anyway , my almost ten year old plasma died the other day and had to get a new set . I picked up a 4k LG and I'm enjoying it but some movies look so fake that it completely ruins the experience . I haven't watched a true 4k movie yet but the blue rays that get upscaled look so fake that it's hard to even watch . Tried watching the new Star Wars and it just looked like I was on the sound stage viewing it . Is it just me or does anyone else think this ? Wife says it's me but I think it's something with the upscale technology,almost reminds me of how that tilt-shift photo effect can make real photos look fake ...
Sound like motion smoothing settings which can defintly make things look fake. Also referred to as the soap opera effect.
^Motion smoothing +1 I want a new tv, but will need to wait a few more months for a great deal with the options I like.
There is a HUGE difference between "native" 120Hz and "effective" 120Hz. Refer to rtings.com for reviews on TVs.
Thinking soap opera effect too. Turn off 120.. No tvs have true 120hz input (panel yes, input no) and if they do... Unless you're using a pc and gaming, It's a useless feature, since just about everything outputs 60hz (except pc).
True, but you won't find a set worth buying that has HDR and isn't 4k. And as mentioned by others, the motion smoothing is whats causing the unrealistic effect. I think it's called "TruMotion" on LG TVs. You'll want to turn that down. Also, google your TV's model with "calibration settings" and that will get you as close to perfect as you can get without calibrating yourself or having someone else come out and do it.
