The death of Robin Williams was the first celebrity death that emotionally effected me, and now with Gene Wilder's passing that count is at 2. I grew up on his movies. It was my grandmother's and my thing when I was a kid. We always watched his movies together. Man, this sucks.

Seemed he was really shook by the death of Gilda Radnor.

God, this is like losing more of my childhood. The guy was a legend for me growing up. One of the things that I liked about him was that he could be absolutely funny without being obnoxious or foul mouthed. He could be dry, passive aggressive and totally neurotic at the same time and pull it off like no one else.

I remember when the Rockets lost to the lakers in the conference semifinals in 2009, right after game seven I posted this video on facebook:

Thank you sir for all the laughs and smiles you brought to me.

Stir Crazy is still one of my all time favorite movies
Wilder and Pryor together was comedy gold

Blazing Saddles was nothing without him . . .

Silver Streak was my favorite movie as a kid. Must have watched it about 100 times.

Goes without saying that Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor had a comedic chemistry that was special to watch.

Mr. Wilder was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He didn't make his condition public. part of his retirement was based on this condition.

Rest peacefully, Mr. Wilder. You will be missed.

In that last interview, his reasoning for not making movies for the last 23 years was a bit strange. He cited dirty, bad language, and explosions and scripts just not having a regular conversation. He even said he received some good scripts that interested him but not a lot. I can sort of understand where he was coming from but it also seems he was making some broad-sweeping generalizations about films in general as his reason not to make films even if some scripts he was receiving were good enough to draw his interest.

It's just sad we didn't get to see him do more films because his opinions of films became negative at some point and that appeared to turn him against acting in films altogether. It sounds like from him he had plenty of chances.

It was also interesting his comments about Richard Pryor.

Ahh man, I need to watch Silver Streak and YF and Saddles again soon..

And if you haven't seen Woody Allen's 'Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sex, But Were Afraid to Ask', then you need to watch that right away also. Wilder's part in that is awesome too. Daisy! Daisy!!!
