Apparently 76ers made a strong run at him and forced Spurs to triple their offer

Is that real? That would be fun to play with Ben Simmons. But in the end, I'd have to stay, and not just because they are contenders.

If you really wanna go play for the Sixers, you can go play for the Sixers.

We'll offer in the range of $3M-$7M, take it or go play for the Sixers.

Okay, fine, we'll overpay & keep one of our own.

He took 2 mill last season so they could sign Aldridge. Its compensation for two seasons basically. Makes sensex suprised he didn't retire with Duncan though.

Damn I wish Duncan would have stayed one more season.

Bird rights--apparently they were already at the limit when they signed him.

Why Ginobody? Great player, probably not HOF but grest great player nonetheleas that has never been an *******.

His production off the bench is still worth$7-8m/ye easily, and considering 1-year deals typically are higher and Ginobolli has been taking discounts the last few years.

Bald-faced cap circumvention. Signed for cheap last year to help Spurs fit in Aldridge with a promise to get overpaid this season. Same thing the Rockets and Barkley did to disastrously sign Quitten. It happens enough that people don't even blink at it, but it's cheating.

Safe to say this is his last go around. Wonder if this is going to be it for Pop as well.

Agree completely. The nods and winks are very clear.

$14M is ridiculous for him at this point, on the surface, so it has to be compensation for past selfless acts. He'll be 39 years old before this month is out.

All that said, I hate to admit it, but he played 20 mpg last year and still had pretty nice stats.

They were going to pay him in the 7 million ball park, for 1'year, before philly upped the ante. He was paid his market value.

Point is that he wasn't paid market the last two years, which allowed SAS to eventually pay LMA.

But how is that shady? You could argue it's shady if it was tit-for-tat: "You play cheap this year while we sign a big free agent and, in return, we'll overpay you to make it up to you next year."

But if he was paid market, he didn't get a big overpayment to make it up. He just sacrificed in past seasons as a gift to the team, essentially.

Considering what scrubs and average players have been paid this offseason, $14M probably isn't out of line for his ability (at least, the ability he showed last season).
