I used to have a monster crush on her back in the day. Loved that Letteman moment. I think he could have had her.

There's so many young folks on this board. How many of you actually saw E.T. in the theater when it first came out? I clearly remember seeing it at the Gulfgate Cinema (on Loop 610) in Houston. It was like this big event and it was memorable for me. I still have photos in my mind of that experience...albeit a bit blurry now. This was June, 1982. E.T. was a huge phenomenon back then. But, anyone who was too young or missed that (not born?) may not appreciate how huge it was. And, it may not be the first film you think of when you think of Drew. But, if you did happen to be around back then, then you saw that film and you never forgot her name or the film that made her after that.

I am surprised that a few people didn't list other films as well. Especially if you were around at that time, because while E.T. everybody knows that film, that film was more about Elliott and ET than Barrymore.

After that, Drew comes out with two controversial movies back to back. Firestarter and Irreconcilable Differences.
People were up in arms about Firestarter, how could they let a young girl like her play the lead role in such a dark psycho thriller.

Irreconcilable Differences, she takes on the subject of how kids are affected in a divorce, a very touchy subject back then.

Honestly I didn't remember Irreconcilable Differences, but when I saw it on her IMBD it came back to me as a standout movie for her, surprised it wasn't listed by somebody.

Remember the bridge from Gulfgate to the cinema? Gone now, like so many other things from back in the day. Ever go to the Ranger Drive-in? Great chicken-fried steak sandwiches and malts!

I saw Superman there when it first came out - one of the earliest films I remember seeing in the theater - that and Empire Strikes Back at the North Shore Dollar Theater
