We don't NEED to sweep these guys but it would be huge if we could. Avoiding Sonny and giving Devenski his first career win.

Rich Hill has been pitching very well, hard to fancy us in that one with Fister on the mound. We need Fiers to improve tonight and Devenski to liven things up for us tomorrow.

    Optimistically WWL

Interesting that we get to see Sean Manaea's debut.

Gotta start stringing some wins together. The hole we are in now is minor in the grand scheme, but it won't be minor forever if we don't start winning some series.

Yeah because in his last two starts, Fister has really put the Astros behind the 8 ball giving up all those runs.

OAK is currently 2nd last in the AL in SLG%. Their bats aint ballin at all.

Need Fiers (and many of our pitchers) to begin their turn around.

He pitched twice @OAK last year. One start was great (6.2 IP / 1 ER / 1 BB), the other was crap (5.0 IP / 4 ER / 4 BBs).

    Missing Gray is great!!

Fister's been ok, but here's Hill's stats last 2 starts:

    6IP 3H 4BB 1ER
    7IP 4H 0BB 0ER

I wasn't hating on Fister who has been reasonable enough in his last 2 starts but just for comparison those 2 improved efforts look like this:

    6IP 4H 7BB 3ER
    6IP 5H 2BB 2ER

Hill has been pitching incomparably better than him

Get a series win/sweep then come back home to a 10 game home stand and turn this thing around.

Hill has been very good in three outings, and terrible in the other two. Probably a lot like Fister at this point of their careers. If they are a little off any particular day they will get hammered, but will have games that they use their veteran knowledge of pitching to battle to a good game

The Astros offense has struggled because of so many stupid base running mistakes, but we are 10th in OPS even with the bottom of the order being so bad. The potential is there to rip into these guys the As are throwing. On the other hand Oakland is 26th in ops and 21st in runs, they aren't making a lot of dumb mistakes, but they simply aren't very good either

Wouldn't disagree except for Hill has had 5 starts and 3 have been very good. Went 6 innings for 5H 1BB and 1ER in his second start.

In one of his terrible starts he went 4.1IP and gave up 3ER which I suspect we would be quietly satisfied with from Feldman or Fiers lol

    Those ERA's.

Hoping we get one of those good outings by Fister.

Let's get a winning streak going!

"hard to fancy us in that one with Fister on the mound" sure seems like a slam on Fister. Granted, Hill has been pitching well. Fister has done better than any Astros pitcher in their last two starts. So your statement would have been more accurate if you replace Fister with "any Astros starter".

Probably yeah, just meant Fister in comparison to Hill lately. You're right, Fister has been ok. Still wouldn't like to see him in the rotation long term though if Devenski is good and Lance comes back soon

Gave up 9 hits and 3 walks in that 4.1 inning start, terrible by all accounts

He is a guy we "should" hit with a majority of our top bats being right handed
