I've always thought Klay Thompson was overrated and benefited greatly from having real talent around him to draw the attention.

But so far this year he has a stat line average of 15.1pts / 4.1 rbs / 1.3 ast with 0.6 steals on .396 shooting, including .139 from 3-pt.

Thompson is playing himself into a new contract that the Warriors might actually be able to afford next year.

Early season slump or something more?

Last couple of years Kaly has started slow. Takes time to shake off China Klay.

Lol Klay isn't overrated he is underrated. Yes he can't be the face or first option but the reality is there are more "first options" out there than superstar "2nd options". Almost every franchise out there has a Curry/Westbrick/Lilliard/Wall/Lebron/Harden/Kawhi etc but if you think of 2nd option players out there no one is as good as Klay.

He just scored 52 pts more than most first options have ever had in their career but he is still thrives playing off the ball to Curry and KD.

Klay is anything but underrated. There was a thread here for a long time about trading Harden for Klay. And ESPN analysts repeatedly refer to him as "the best two way forward in the game".

Being on stacked squads has given him a major halo effect and people don't know how to properly value him.

He is incredibly valuable to a squad that's structured to use his role. He is not in the "best of the NBA" discussion as a standalone player. People try to act like he is Lebron's Dwayne Wade or Jordan's Scottie Pippen.

His role is needed in every championship team which team wouldn't need an off the ball 3 pt shooter who isn't bad defensively?

Sure you won't win as a standalone but which star wins by himself nowadays? Lebron has had 2 all stars along his side but even he can't win all the time and he is pretty much aknowledged as top 2 goat.

So your criticism of Klay doesn't really matter since nobody wins by himself anymore. Btw show me where EsPN analysts call him the best two way forward since he has played SG his whole life wtf. They also reserve that for Kawhi who is clearly a better two way forward than Klay. I think its just your Klay bias working against you.

Wow. Way to prove my sorry ass wrong.

I still don't think he's a star; he's just a streaky shooter who can get on extreme hot streaks.

Speaking of streaky shooter... My next thread in the GARM should be titled:

    WTF happened to Eric Gordon?

Maybe that'll light a fire under EG.

Yeah but he is also old and on the decline. Klay still in his prime. Also Cp3 is a pg while Klay is an off the ball shooter so while Cp3 is light years ahead their roles are different.

In terms of pairing up with Harden, Klay is better than Cp3 since he is taller and can guard both guard spots better while his 3 pt shooting is superior to Cp3 as well.

Klay is probably the best 2nd option in the league. When he gets hot for those 1 or two games every year (60pts 11 dribbles, 39pts 1 quarter, 14 3s today) he's probably the best player ever during those games lol

There's a zone Klay has that everyone else in the NBA cannot reach. You know that feeling when playing against some half decent talent in pickup and you can just toss it over your back half court and it'll go in? That feeling? He can do it on an NBA level.

Any team with Thompson as their primary option is a lottery team. If he were on any other franchise he wouldn't have any all-star appearances, nor be recognized as anything but a really good player. He's basically Kevin Martin that plays defense.

But on that team he is a perennial all-star who can disappear for extended stretches without them missing a beat or taking any heat from the media or fans. He'll go the the hall of fame as well.

So what though? If your only star is Klay Thompson then you want to go to the lottery to pick up other talents. Lots of teams with just 1 star go to the lottery NO has been to the lotto with AD how many times? What about Bucks with Giannis? Wolves with KaT? Even Miami with just Wade went to the lotto multiple times I guess Wade isn't a superstar then.

Kevin Martin is already a pretty good offensive player if you made as good defensively he would be a perennial all star which is what Klay is.

For somebody who supposedly disappears for stretches at a time he has 19 ppg ave which is exceptional for the 3rd option. He also broke the NBA 3 pt record with 14 3 pters so I'm pretty sure his scoring is alright.

Nobody is sayibg he is the best player in the world clearly he is behind guys like Harden, Lebron, KD, curry, Kawhi, AD, Giannis etc.

But on that 2nd tier Klay is top of the list he is clearly better at winning than guys like Wall, Paul George, Irving, Lilliard, Westbrick etc Those guys may be primary options but they are inferior to Klay who is a secondary option. He is a big factor to GSW's success.
