Realistically, it's closer to 0.5 of his total fortune. If you make $100,000, it would be like giving out $500. If you make $20,000, it would be like giving a $100. Let me ask you, have you giving 0.5 of your income to Corona virus? If you haven't, you have no place to talk because even for a billionaire, $25 million is nothing to sneeze at. We should all be thankful a rich person actually stepped up and gave a substantial amount of money to fight this disease.

The more money you have. The more worthless money becomes to you. 5% of a billionaires income is worth less than 20% of a middle class family’s income, not in absolute terms, but from a relative standpoint.

That was my first guess. A generous offer. I hope he’s an inspiration for other super wealthy Americans. We need all the help we can get, and from wherever we can get it.

Balmer is a great owner with real money

He didn't sell food or high interest rate loans to students or pander to the Chinese like a dog

He's a great dude and he's doing it for some skeleton fanbase in Los Angeles which is more amazing.
everybody knows it's a Lakers town, but he might actually change it a bit.

I would have moved the team to Seattle or San Diego or Vegas

This guy is better than all the owners of the Rockets except for maybe Charle Thomas

He took a crap organization who had a racist and cheap owner in Sterling and flipped it to legit contenders

I mean the clippers for the majority of their time were consider the bottom of the nba

Balmer getting his own arena and not piggy backing on the Lakers and Staples shows he's committed to the city of Los Angeles.

He's not putting Chinese themed city jerseys out every year cause he wants china money

That’s simply not true, marginally speaking.

Balmer donating 5% of his income is similar to you donating 2.5% of your income (if you’re average, 60k a year). The utility function doesn’t just stop working past a certain point of wealth.

If you haven’t donated 0.16% of your yearly income to covid-19 research, then you’ve done less than Steve, on an absolute and relative basis.

It’s crazy how far people will go to justify being selfish. At least I admit I’m selfish.

ESPN rather put Lebron's nice words to the medical community than Ballmer's 25 million which is more needed than words. Knowing some, most prefer having supplies than kind words. The more supplies, the more easier their job.

Wait, did @Carl Herrera type "to be fair" with respect to Fern t***?

On teh serious though, it's amazing that people like to complain about the % of Balmer's income this represents instead of complaining about other rich owners who aren't making similar contributions in a crisis (which they are not obligated to do).

But anyway, THX, Balmer! Good job.

I'm not sure how you got your math but my concept of money is that, like everything, the more you have, the less it means to you.

Money by itself is worthless, but the experiences and things that you get to do in exchange for money is what provides value.

For people like ballmer, they've already reached that threshold to where no life experience or item is out of reach. Therefore, what is truly the value of an extra dollar, or million, to them? Nothing.

There was a time, a long time ago, when I'd spend .5% of my income in 2hrs at Treasures.
