What was the deal about Hakeem leaving in 1992? I was at the Summit draft party that night. There was a Minor buzz on the floor when the Rox went on the clock and a huge sigh of disappointment when Horry's name was called.
remember he wanted out of houston when they said he was faking an injury. but then charlie thomas worked out a contract with dream on the way to tokyo.
I was at that draft party on the floor of the Summit when Horry's name was called. A few people threw stuff onto the floor from the stands, there was a lot of boos, and a lot of "who?!"s. Everybody wanted the Rockets to draft Baby Jordan.
It still makes me laugh, freakin Harold Minor. I don't know who made the choice in the Rockets Front Office that year for Horry, but they deserve a medal. They saved the fans from themselves.
You and me both. I was there with a couple of friends. I had no idea who Robert Horry was, and the hype around Harold Miner was incredible.
He would have been the MVP of the 1995 finals had Hakeem not been so unbelievable. What a player! And the analyst had him pegged. His energy is super low... unless it matters.
Legendary Steve Patterson. The forgotten GM responsible for the championships teams! I also remember a Danny Manning deal as well as a Stanley Roberts + Cash deal that had a lot of traction. Oh man, what could have been. Thank god that never happened.
"And noowwwww, the man who ... would have picked Harold Miner over Robert Horry. Davviid Hardisty." Love that podcast intro. So, everyone in that video mispronounced Horry's name (except Craig Sager). the Hor was ponounced like in the word horror.
I was one of those who could not believe we drafted Horry instead of Miner. It made me sick. But I was wrong. And I say I was wrong. Good show Robert. Good show.
