This article on the Hornets from Zach Lowe today....

I absolutely shake my head at this GMing. Are you NOT PREPARED!?!? WTF!?!?

Yes, you haven't been focusing! That much is quite clear!

And Bobby Marks throws in his two cents

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/HPbasketball">@HPbasketball</a> you should be fired if you aren't prepared</p>&mdash; Bobby Marks (@BobbyMarks42) <a href="https://twitter.com/BobbyMarks42/status/626102062493908993">July 28, 2015</a></blockquote>

Contrast that GMing with how Morey prepares.

The other side to this is why wouldn't Boston offer the trade earlier in the day? Why wait until 2 minutes left. And you can't use the excuse, because their man fell unexpectedly. That's called being unprepared, too.

If you want to trade up in the trade, you should be talking to nearly everyone well before their pick comes up. I'm not saying you need to announce your entire package, but tell them to expect a call and what the package will look like.

Sounds like Ainge/Boston couldn't figure out what to do with all their picks, so were wheeling and dealing at the last second. That would make anyone shy.

To be fair to Boston, no one expected Winslow to fall that far. The Kings, Pistons and Nuggets all were projected to possibly pick Winslow, but they chose Cauley-Stein, Stanley Johnson and Mudiay instead, with Cauley-Stein and Johnson being big head scratchers.

Ainge jumped on it once those teams passed up Winslow and offered something much more than fair to wow Michael Jordan into a deal. Jordan, with his crocodile GM brain, was overwhelmed and chose the default route.

Once it was Miami (#10)'s turn, there is no way in hell they would pass Winslow and trade with Boston. The Arisons had strong tie to Duke (with Nick going there). They started to sing the Duke fight song when Charlotte chose Kaminsky and Winslow fall to them.

Really makes you appreciate having Morey as our GM. We never have to worry about nonsense like this.

Does this mean I have a chance of someday becoming a GM?

That's my point. You can't say Rich Cho of the Hornets was unprepared without saying Ainge was unprepared for Winslow dropping, too. Ainge screwed up his on trade often, by attempting to put one together at the last second, rather than talking to each and every team in the Top 10 (or so) what he would be willing to do in general terms, at each on of their spots. And to expect a call for a pick swap offer.

Further, when Polk says "We haven't been focusing on that range [16-20)", he could be talking about personal interviews. It's hard to interview every single player, they often don't allow it.

Those personality interviews are becoming more important. Remember, we messed up (the other way around) on Eddie Griffin on a last second deal, by taking him without due diligence. Because we never expected him to be available. We took him, and he was a head case.

To be fair to Charlotte, they declined to screw up four times, instead, just once. :p

I take the Horncats don't have a draft board (or the like)?

Hawes, Kaminsky, Zeller, Williams (Vonleh at the time...)

Stay bad Sacramento, Charlotte, and you very-bad-no-good-franchises.

So is there evidence showing that the offer was one that shouldn't have been passed up? Coming from Ainge, I doubt that's the case. Don't see how Hawes is relevant to the decision either.

Sounds like a difficult environment. Credit to Les Alexander for putting ego aside and allowing a normie (non-billionaire with a very generic laugh sub-human) like Morey to fully explore possibilities and express his intellect.

Below is an article from the NY Times regarding the acquisition of Shane Battier. Notice the difference in "operations"

If Boston offered that trade two or three weeks earlier,I honestly believed Charlotte would have tooken it. By then Charlotte could have done a proper reset for the franchise and properly rebuild from the draft.Maybe even dealing Al and Kemba if they really wanted to start over. By the time Boston did offer that trade, Charlotte already had Batum,Hawes, and Lamb, moves which were made for them to compete, so accepting it IMO would have nullified all the other moves up to that point. Charlotte being really unlucky in that 2012 draft really cost the franchise. They really thought they would get the number 1 pick.

Also it must be tough for Cho if your boss is Jordan. Hopefully Silver would do Jordan a solid before the all star game in Charlotte.

What can you expect from a GM whose signing Lin after he got dumped by the Lakers?

Polk argues drafting extra players might have cramped Charlotte’s roster space. “We didn’t have enough spots after picking up Spencer Hawes, Jeremy Lamb, and Batum,” Polk says. “Even if someone wants to give me first-round picks, what am I going to do with them?”

    ------------------------------

This is the most stupid thing that any sport teams management can ever say.

Picking up Lin has always been a good business decision, Jordan knows a little bit about business. Being a good judge of talent, well that's another story....ahheeemmm *clears throat* Kwame Brown! Yeah, what can you expect, Jordan should never make player decision, he thinks every talented player has his desire to crush people and always gets disappointed when they don't.

Just read the whole article and I have to wonder this :

did Cho just intentional giving all these info to Lowe so that he can get fired by MJ?

This is the only rational and logical explanation for this whole mess.

There is no other team with a more sad situation than the Hornets.

It's as if they have no concept of a draft board.

Bunch of idiots sat around in a room for 15 minutes, nodded when MJ said Frank Kaminsky, and then went out for beers.

There are about 50 times more Chinese population in any major Nigeria cities than in Carolina.

To be fair though, the main reason why the Hornets picked Lin is actually not really about they are picking him,

its because most of the other backup PG say no to the Hornets.

Its basically a ****hole no one interested to go to.
