That can't be right, that would be every penny of our MLE wouldn't it?

Unless they really love this guy, which I guess it is possible. Still don't see it happening.

If he is guaranteed that money and a starting job, yes he will

He doesn't even get paid that much in Europe.

"The Rockets are trying to convince Sergio Llull to join the team with a three-year contract worth at least $17 million."

Paging Bima, assuming those numbers are right, who would we need to get rid of in order to offer him that contract? Given our need at PG i really hope we are able to convince him to come over.

If you read between the lines, and considering the sources in what they are hearing, this basically tells me that the Rockets have Llull's camp they will likely offer him the full mid level this Summer.

Looks like the structure might be similar to the original Ariza contract for the first 3 years, but I bet if they are giving that much they are putting major team options on the last year, or even non-guaranteed money on the back-end.

I bet though that this is taken out of context. No way Morey is actually making an official offer right now. What he's doing over in Europe is laying out what the Rockets salary cap situation looks like this Summer, and showing him what the full MLE looks like from a dollar amount.

There is alot that can happen between now and July 1st so Id take this with a grain of salt. Yes we know Morey has been in Europe the past few weeks. Yes we know he's talked with Llull and his people. But he's also talked to Gentile's people, and he's also got the Brewer situation, and the McDaniels situation, and the Josh Smith situation, etc.

And only one Mid Level Exception to work with. So take it as you want.

I'm still of the thought SL comes over - - after forcing a trade to a team like Chicago or Memphis (as my 'understanding' is he wants to play with a friend and countryman).

I hope Bima (or another one of our brilliant posters here well versed in the salary cap and the Rocket's situation) can shed some light on the possibility of the Rockets being able to offer Llull 7 million per year.

What would we do to have to open up that much cap space? Who would it mean losing from the current team (i.e. not being able to bring back)?

I am pretty sure it would mean not being able to bring back Josh Smith (unless he gives the Rockets one heck of a sweat heart deal), and it would mean not bringing Pumpernickle back (which would be a shame, but, perhaps he would come back on a new much smaller contract now that he has used his current larger contract to pay the buyout he had).

I am mainly concerned with McDaniels and Brewer though. With McDaniels, it really depends on how much he is looking for, and I am clueless on what that will be. On Brewer, would we be able to have 7 million in cap space with his cap hold, or would we have to waive our rights to him/ sign him to a deal prior to having enough money to pursue Llull.

Basketball wise, I would love to see Llull on the team. I think he would be a great fit next to Harden.

The Rockets represent a pretty good situation for Llull now if he wants guaranteed minutes, and potential to start. Probably a better situation than the Bulls with Rose still on the roster.

All I know is Im pretty sure Llull is now starting his 200 3's after practice regimen.
