I have one in each shoulder. Sucks because I am about to start coaching my sons bball team and I literally cant shoot a ball. Surgery or rehab? Just looking for different opinions.
If you know you have a torn labrum does that mean you had an mri (with an arthrogram typically)? If you had an mri does that mean you have an orthopedic doc who ordered it and is looking at the film? He or she would be the best one to tell you if you need surgery or not not us.
I got a tear in my rotator cuff when I landed on my shoulder playing Ultimate. It was extremely painful and I probably lost about 30% of mobility/functionality in that shoulder/arm when it came to playing Ultimate. After about a year of dealing with it and with the pain increasing, I went and got an MRI, got the tear diagnosed, and began physical therapy. The PT was very successful and I got back, probably more than 95% of my mobility/functionality when playing Ultimate. My shoulder still gets sore, but it's way, way better.
Depends on the severity and location of the injury. I would also recommend seeing an orthopedic doctor. Recovery time for surgery is usually long. Everyone is different, but it took a year for me.
Wow that sucks...a year to recovery? I had my surgery back in 2011. Mark Provenzano did some clean up then put in 2 anchors. My recovery time was 8 weeks, so yes everyone's recovery time is different. To OP: If you know what's wrong via MRI and have seen a doctor, I would just get the surgery and get it over with. Good luck!
Yes ive had the MRI which my PCP ordered for me. Both my PCP and the MRI report confirmed a non-displaced posterior labral tear in both shoulders as well as an OS acrimonea (sp.) in both shoulders. I have an appt to see a shoulder specialist next week.
I developed frozen shoulder after surgery. I guess I was one of the unlucky ones. It was about a year before I regained full range of motion and was completely pain free. Physical therapy really, really sucks.
I am 8 week out from Surgery. I quite playing volleyball for 6 months hoping it would help but didn't. So did the surgery. End up having bicep tendonitis to repair. Surgery wasn't bad but 6 weeks in a sling sucked and PT was/is so much worse then my knee surgeries. I have a lot of my range of motion back and in 2 weeks will start strengthing. 6-9 months for full recovery to playing v-ball again
