Do you like the trade of non-guaranteed contracts for Jason Terry and two 2nd rounders?

    Why don't you understand it?

Either (A) this will facilitate a trade that is already lined up, (B) this will facilitate an unknown future trade or (C) there are no trades that can get done using Terry's salary but at least the Rockets have two more draft picks to use in unrelated trades.

With only a finite window during which to utilize the full 20 roster spots, the Rockets are making a move now to consolidate those roster spots before cut-downs become necessary and non-guaranteed salaries turn from assets into waiver wire fodder.

Aside from any future moves the Rockets could (and obviously would prefer) to make, looking at this trade on its own merits, it's pretty darn good. Just take a look at the recent returns for taking on other teams' salaries:

Utah got a 2017 NYK second round pick in exchange for taking on the final two years, $7.2 million of Steve Novak's contract.

Milwaukee got a 2017 LAC first rounder in exchange for taking on Jared Dudley's $4.25 million salary next year.

Two second rounders (with that 2015 SAC second rounder looking to be in the late 30s/early 40s) is a pretty nice return for taking on an expiring contract that in no way adversely affects the Rockets' cap beyond this season, a season in which they already had little/no cap room.

Great explanation for people who can't see it for what it is. He can still shoot.

I don't understand how anyone could be against this, especially with the two second rounders. Morey has better luck with those than with first rounders! :p

The difference is that one overpaid for a wannabe superstar and the other gained even more assets in the form of an expiring contract and two 2nd round picks, and is a little bit closer to creating a suitable package for a real 3rd star player.

    Which is which?

Another thought....this puts Boston, PHX and Bledsoe on a bit of a time limit, at least for pre-season trades. The rockets won't have enough salary to trade for either Rondo or Bledsoe after this trade is completed (at least until November 15th).

So I'd say for Bledsoe, it's September 15th or not at all, unless he does take the QO, which I find unlikely.

For Rondo, I could see it stretching out to November, but that's a risk for Boston as we could work out a deal for Rubio or Dragic in the meantime.

In essence, announcing this trade beforehand could bring everyone (PHX, Boston, and Minnesota) to the table. Who knows if a deal will actually get done, but the possibility is there.

Oh the deal makes perfect sense, it was a great move by Morey, no question.

It's just the prospect of the throwing-up-in-my-mouth-a-little-bit every time I see JT take the floor for the Rox, which I hope he never does.

    THAT'S the part I don't like.

The poll shows a 4 to 1 approval/reading these comments makes it seem overwhelming negative. This "every move you make sucks" theme has been playing for a long time. It's a ugly tonal change I do not like. Sort of like Asik's attitude. Lighten up on the piss and vinegar a little. let change happen without all the second guessing, I guess is what I'm saying. Future second rounders are attractive to most teams; low buy in, possible big payoffs. Carry on.

Yes, I don't understand why Terry plus 2 second rounders are still worse than bench warmer Gee.
