In the first practice since Paul George broke his leg during a scrimmage, Team USA suffered another injury blow.

DeMarcus Cousins was injured in Thursday's practice while going for a loose ball. He had to be helped off the court and favored his right leg.

Jerry Colangelo, director of Team USA, said he is "wishful, hopeful" that Cousins is OK and told reporters the Sacramento Kings' big man will miss Saturday's game against Brazil. Colangelo said Cousins will get a precautionary MRI on his leg.

The team is practicing at Quest MultiSport Complex in Chicago.

It has been a rough few weeks for Team USA. After losing George to an open tibia-fibula fracture, NBA MVP Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder withdrew from consideration for Team USA, citing "physical and mental fatigue."

George's injury and Durant's withdrawal followed previous withdrawals by All-Stars Kevin Love, Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge, and NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard.

Team USA is down to 15 finalists, with the final 12 scheduled to be selected before the Americans depart for the World Cup of Basketball in Spain in late August. The FIBA World Cup, featuring 24 national teams, is scheduled to be held Aug. 30-Sept. 14.

Time to retire the idea of a NBA "Dream Team" and just let the Harlem Globetrotters represent the USA going forward. They spend more time working as a team, anyway...

The national team should be built base of the NBA champion team of the year. Whatever spot that is voided by foreign players can be filled by any players in the league selected by the champion team.

    Make it an obligation.

It's supposed to be an honor, not an obligation.

anyone who plays sports regularly should understand injuries happen. its definitely unfortunate but nothing should change as far as the decision to represent where you're from by doing what they do for a living

Injuries happen anywhere and everywhere. Remember when Monta Ellis broke got injured on a scooter right AFTER he signed his deal with the Warriors?

And besides, I doubt 60% of the Spurs would have wanted to play FOR the United States.

I agree an actual NBA team would be cool to watch. But in practice, this year's are not the same team without their foreign players.

The injuries and players backing out actually makes the World Cup more fun to watch.

So as long as parsons doesn't make it, I don't want to cheer for him or any team he's on.m

Obligated players will get injured too, I really don't see your point.

Well that's good news. Any more injuries & the NBA won't allow the players to do anything except sit on their duffs during the offseason.

This isn't Cuba. We can't force players to play.

That's because he doesn't have one.
