This far into the season, it is clear the Rockets are trying to make the playoffs. Taking that into consideration, what do you think Morey should do before the trade deadline? Just make a minor move to put us in a better financial position, maybe get a rarely used guy who could provide valuable minutes for us. Try to sell high with players, if we have any, and get some picks. Or go for the minor or big splash, in the latter case trade away the only starter I can see us parting with for big fish: Parsons. (Patterson and Morris do not count). Personally, I would go for the big splash if the right player can be pried away like Lamarcus Aldridge. If not, then go for a minor splash like Paul Millsap because we are intent on making the playoffs. As long as we are going for it, might as well do it with the best team possible. A combination of a trade to upgrade with some future moves for draft picks as long as it doesn't involve Greg Smith. The 3 we got this offseason in Lin, Harden & Asik are untouchable so even though I would part with Asik for the right player (All-Star big), it's not going to happen. What do you guys think?
Move Morris, Patterson, and maybe Douglass for picks or Millsap. Either way, Rockets get an upgrade at PF (Millsap or Jones/DMO). Slot Beverley at backup PG. Need to take these veteran options away from McHale. The bigger fish are all unavailable now. Sign Millsap to only a 2 year deal.
Wish we would sell high on Douglas since he's gone after the season anyway, assuming Beverley can play (and I don't know on that point). But I don't think he will--would leave the team too exposed to risk
We have Douglas for another year if we want to. We have a couple of players that have to be attractive to contending teams. Both Delfino and Douglas are on cheap deals for this year and the next. Neither are part of our long-term strategy. We've got a lot of young PF prospects on cheap deals, none who have separated themselves from the rest of the glut at that position. And we've got Aldrich, who is a serviceable center on an expiring contract. I'd like to see a few of those guys moved for picks or quality "assets" that will help us in our quest for our #2 franchise piece.
Sell, sell, sell. ANYONE not named Harden (he is the only one that can not be up-graded). Our Rockets as constructed will NEVER win a TITLE. Yes, they are fun to watch (if you can) but the point is to win a / some chamionships. So staying pat is not the answer. I trust DMtheGM & so should you (look at how much better we are this year than last). An up-grade at any spot helps Players like Cousins (the someday but today I am a silly a$$ kid) are not the answer... Players like Dunleavy are (high BB IQ --> that play as a team)
I'd say make a trade;however, only if there is a good deal on the table. In my opinion, Harden and Asik are the only untouchables. It's difficult finding a rebounding machine center..who by the way is really good on defense. That said if there isn't a good deal on the table stand your ground Morey. I doubt K.Love is available this year through trade, and Paul Millsap i honestly don't remember seeing him play. I guess what i'm trying to say is don't trade mediocore players for medicore players. Patience is a virtue
I dont really like Asik. I'd rather have a center like Joakim or Chandler anyday. Asik is great at rebounding, good at defense. He sucks offensively, cannot catch passes, has only 1 offensive arsenal (reverse layup), and is very clumsy to be honest. Have you see guys like Chandler? They can dunk, alley-oop, rebound, play defense, and thrive on PnR.
yes i do agree with you that Joakim or Chandler are better, and yes Asik is very clumsy when it comes to catching the ball. You have to realize that this is the first year that he started and contributing. Give Omer another year i'm sure he is going to improve.
I would check into trading Greg Smith for a late first rounder. I wouldn't trade for someone I could sign outright in fa this summer, but would look to see if I could expand my assets warchest.
I would not trade Parsons his production / intangibles versus how much money he makes him a great value for years to come if he continues to improve. This is not to say he is etched in stone at the starter position but Parsons, Omer, Harden would be untouchable to me. Everybody else is available. Not sure that leaves enough for a major splash via trade this year. I see a tweak trade coming. I don't thing TD stays the entire season. I think patbev will get the chance to show what he can do on this level before the season ends. I've only watched a game and half of him he is trying to morph himself vocal floor leader type so far you can tell he is grateful for the opportunity. Also think the PPat, Mmorris situation needs to be address. I think Mmorris is feeling the pressure and PPat still not consistent enough to take his spot back.
Yeah, but Chandler and Joakim are two of the better centers in the league, are highly paid, and are probably not available for what we are willing to give up. If ny or Chicago will trade Chandler or Noah straight up for Asik, then I agree with you. But, keep in mind that Noah is making $11 million and Chandler is making $13 million. The Rockets are only paying Asik $8 million a year on average.
