Is Keo that better at special teams than Nolan? I don't remember Keo making outstanding ST plays. I get that this move was about special teams, I just didn't know the gap between Keo and Nolan was great enough in the ST department that their backup status to the D was given less significance in making the choice.

Alan Ball is another one that I'll be keeping an eye on, he's a Cowboys leftover that Wade brought in, just like Bradie James.

Man, that sucks. Nolan seemed like he usually was pretty effective when given opportunities.

I am hoping son of Bum knows what he is doing.

Statistically, Wade's D drops in production from year 1 to year 2

Wade has a lot of pull around here. Not only with Alan Ball and Bradie James but remember he is the reason the Texans drafted Keo. He coached Keo in the East-West Shrine game and raved about him.

real surprised by Nolan getting cut. He seemed to make plays when given the opportunity but geez...i just dont understand the fascination with keo. I wanted to be optimistic about him because he did have some big backers but he just always seems to get burned

Im surprised about Troy Nolan and Jonathan Grimes, Grimes had a nice preseason.

releases from other teams that got me interested are:

    FB Rock Cartwright from 49ers
FB Jacon Hester from San Diego
    CB Alphonso Smith from Detroit
    CB Drayton Florence from Denver
P Matt McBriar (if Donnie Jones is not good) from Philly, but he played great with Dallas, last year.

and some WRs, but I dont think they sign more WRs:

    Roscoe Parish
    Jordan Shirpley
    Deion Branch
    Greg Camarillo

I hear they actually tried to trade Troy Nolan to the Bears but they wanted McManis instead. McManis can play well in ST, and Nolan is just a guy otherwise.

I think there's more to the story though, but it isn't out of the question that he got outplayed in camp by Shiloh Keo.

Troy Nolan is good enough to start! Move Quin back CB, start Nolan in his place. Keon just pisses me off. He looked terrible on defense this preseason ... Against bench warmers ...

Yeah but Keo is outstanding on special teams, it doesn't matter what he does on defense he's not going to see the field.

This was the special team coaches decision not Wade's

i dont see a relation, keo and ball will be restricted to ST. it will have no effect on the defense. demps made nolan expendable. roc made sherrick expendable..

ball and keo are at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to DB depth..

Johnny Mac (aka Pancakes) said they were looking to move Nolan for a swing tackle but teams figured he'd get cut so they weren't willing to trade for him. Will be interesting to see if the Bears pick him up or not.

The swing tackle position is a concern going into the year with Butler out. Newton is going to have to up his level of play in a hurry with no safety net behind him...

I suspect that the Texans are sniffing the waiver wire looking to upgrade:

    Alan Ball (DB)
    Shiloh Keo (DB + ST)
    Andrew Gardner (OL)
    Shelley Smith (OL)

    I'm surprised Nolan got cut.

Granted Demps has been stellar at the safety position, along with Quin and Manning abd while I don't think he played special teams and at times was a bit too ball hungry causing blown plays, he was still a quality back up. He is probably going to get signed somewhere but that hurts our DB depth unless more moves are made.

im secretly hoping that they can use Trindon on end around reverse plays...

no one is gonna kick it to him...especially since kickoffs start at the 35...

    Go Texans...

Nate Menkin claimed by the Eagles according to his Twitter that is why he isn't on the practice squad. DJ Bryant probably got claimed as well. First time I can remember Texans cuts getting picked by other teams.
