If the rockets are willing to deal with his medical issues, nabbing him wouldn't be a bad move at all. He has such a unique skill set. Would you guys trade Morris for him straight up?
Anytime you find a 4 that can put the ball on the floor and handle like that and has the court vision to be able to find guys, not to mention the post game and the ability to step outside and shoot the deep ball, you're looking at a possible superstar. The ONLY things keeping him out of the top 5 of the lottery is the personal stuff. But the personal stuff is so huge, it could turn him into a huge nothing. I'm really not worried about him having a kid. I think Wade had one, maybe two kiddos before he hit the NBA, among many others. And I'm not too worried about the theft break-in or whatever he got tangled up in at Minnesota. That's typical kid stuff. Of course, if he doesn't mature, then it turns into terrible adult stuff. But that anxiety stuff kinda bothers me. He may just have a screw loose enough that it can't be fixed. And the combination of the anxiety and the stupidity of youth could be toxic. But I can't get away from his game. I'd really like to pick him up late in the first or if he dropped to the second, it would be a very low risk high potential return kind of thing.
Here ya go! Scouting Royce White. Here, he gives a little look into his anxiety situation. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/T-tNRiQ-x-c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Royce White to the Rockets? After looking at his highlights...the Rockets need to seriously consider drafting him or trading for him. He is a unique talent who you know will give opposing teams fits trying to adjust to his style of play.
How can you not love this guy's honesty? Q: Is (your fear of flying) overblown? White: "I wouldn't say overblown, that's probably not fair. They're valid concerns. But I'm not concerned about flying come season time." Q: How would you rate yourself as a shooter? White: "Very mediocre. Average." Q: What are you doing to work on that? How do you ease those concerns for NBA teams? White: "I'm not really trying to ease them. I tell them the truth -- I'm working on it, getting my reps up and trying to progress." <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/b9TaK9fCI2U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I really really like this guy, but the last Iowa St player I loved was Marcus Fizer, and he fizzled in the NBA. I would love for the Rox to get this guy, very intelligent - and driven to help. DD
I can't see the video here at work. Don't know if it's from the combine? Katz asked him about his strengths as a player, and he answered, "I can do a little bit of everything, nothing great," and told how he's working on everything to get better. Refreshing to see an athlete not completely full of himself.
Yeah, it's from the combine... you've probably seen it before. And that last line of yours I totally agree with ... very rarely do you see a player truly admit to a weakness. From a selfish standpoint, I'd love to be able to talk to Royce White and get quotes from him after games... seems like a straight shooter (at least, off the court).
For some reason his mentality reminds me of Arian Foster a bit. Kind of interesting, but refreshing characters. That said, I think a a lot of his uniqueness might be marginalized in the NBA. Doesn't mean he can't have a nice Boris Diaw-esque career, which at the 16th pick would be fine. I'm just not sold on it...
the guy looks like a good player. to be successful in the nba i think he needs to mold his offensive game to chris webber's and i think the main thing thats stopping him for that is his jumpshot. he also needs mold his defensive game to chuck hayes'. he looks like he has the strength, but does he have the lateral agility and bball iq?
