Saw this on chron.com this morning. Brought back a lot of good memories.

Found it interesting in that besides the 2 that have passed (Dave Smith and Aurelio "Home Run" Lopez), almost everyone else is still involved in baseball (quite a few at the management level).

Just looked up Hal Lanier on Wikipedia. Shows he is also still in baseball, managing a minor league team called to Normal Cornbelters.

Can't believe he never managed again after he got canned by McMullen.

Really? I gathered that he was quite intense, but didn't realize that he was unstable.

Dierker won 4 division titles in 5 years and has never even been officially interviewed for another managerial job.

Ugh. I loved that team so much as a kid. Game 6 was so painful.

Holy crap, it sucks to be a Houston sports fan.

Billy Doran was my favorite Astro of that time period, dude hustled on every play and was a better defensive 2nd baseman then Ryno but was overshadowed by Sandberg's offense. I was hoping the Stros would look at him for the manager spot before they hired Mills but with that group its obvious they run a buddy system and he isn't one of them.

Good times indeed, being apart of what many consider the greatest baseball game ever played is awesome just wish we had won like in 2005.

Hardly makes him unique among managers.

Astros should have never let him go to the Rangers.

    I miss seeing this.

I'm sorry, but I'll take a 3-1 or 2-1 game where one of the pitchers throws 10 or 12 K's and you see great defense over this homer-happy, stand-around-and-wait-for-the-big-inning stuff they play today. It's just boring.

"Chicks dig the long ball," and perhaps teeny-boppers and 20-somethings do, too.

    But I like baseball.

They're not booing, they're just yelling:
    "Cruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuz!"
