The Texans (reportedly) love Patrick Peterson

    Lock if posted.

The Texans were desperate for a starting cornerback this year, to the point everyone fully expected them to take their top-ranked with their first pick, and that’s exactly what they did.

They drafted Kareem Jackson, he started all season, and few cornerbacks in the NFL played worse last season.

Now they are as desperate as they were last year, if not more. A lot of mock drafts have the Texans taking Prince Amukamara if he falls to them, but SI’s Peter King indicates Houston is aiming higher.

“Houston loves Patrick Peterson,” King writes. ”Capital L. I smell a trade-up.”

The Texans would likely need Peterson to fall out of the top five picks to make such a move, but that’s certainly possible. Of course, this is misinformation season, so anything is possible.

I'll be stunned if the Texans trade up in the first round. In a good way, just stunned.

I don't know. Honestly, it makes a ton of sense for guys fighting for their job. This is PRESUMABLY (and I put that in all caps because I've been presuming it for a couple of years now) a make or break year for management and our coach. I could see them really battlefighting and working their ass off to grab impact..immediate impact.

Having said that, I'm right back with you...I'll be stunned, because I haven't seen them do that yet in other offseasons where I thought they'd respond that way...especially last offseason.

Yeah, I just don't buy into the idea that the team is desperate and/or competent enough to know what to do when desperate.

Some dogs come out fighting when they get backed into a corner, others bark themselves into a seizure. I think the Texans are the ones we need to hope don't swallow their tongues.

Funny thing is I don't know if that's even the case with this owner. I'd love for it to happen and funny how the Jacksonville win proves even more worthless.

I think the real question here is, do you trust management enough to allow this to happen?? You'd presumably be giving away an additional first, and most likely a couple of seconds (or something of that sort) to get Peterson, but is that something we should want THIS regime to do?? They haven't shown the least bit of savvy when it comes to free agency signings, and haven't really shown the drafting acumen that they've been advertised as having (at least not shown it in spades), so would you want them giving away valuable draft picks to try and save the jobs they've had ample time to save up until this point??

FWIW, I'm on board with this as long as they are able to address the rest of their needs in free agency. I think this team is a lot closer than we think they are, and taking risks like this might be the catalyst that's needed. They are already young.....now they need talent.

I'll be happy if true, but everything else I've seen is pointing towards the Texans being locked in on the WOLB position and may even pass on Amukamara if he fell to them. Alledged sources claiming that the Texans are gunshy about back-to-back first round CB picks (which would fit their history).

I'm of the opinion that it's just not that hard to find a competent rushing specialist....but very expensive to bring in a competent #1 CB vet. Given the choice, I snag Peterson if I have a shot at trading up for him. I do think Von Miller would be stellar for us, but if Quin remains our best secondary man, it's pointless.

This. Though I wouldn't limit it to just the Texans. He is an absolute willing mouthpiece for any team that wants to float misinformation. He has no idea what's he talking about and takes everyone at their word.

I didn't know until the other day that Peterson had scored a single digit on his Wonderlich. That's a little troubling. The concern with him, apparently, is that he isn't very football smart, meaning he's making up for it with superior athelticism, which will obviously be negated in the NFL.

If they're trading up, I hope to heck it's for Miller, who I just gut-feel is going to make an easier transition to the NFL than any CB. Again, I'm sure Kubiak and Sherman have talked *a lot* about Miller. Peterson might be their "Plan B" smokescreen: Tell everyone you love Peterson (and not Miller) so no one jumps ahead of wherever you land with the idea of taking Miller. If he is gone, then you take PP.

I think drafting a CB in the 1st round and immediately throwing him to the wolves is a GREAT idea.

If there's one problem with our secondary, it's that we're just not young enough.

Thank god we beat those dag nabbed Jaguars to end the year, otherwise we might not have this great opportunity to trade up!

If there is one year where they Texans don't follow their normal zero risk pattern it would be this one. Coaches and GM know that this is their last chance to win.

While it gives me some hesitation, too, remember: 1) we've definitively upgraded our coaching staff; b) PP is an *elite* prospect. KJ, wherever he might eventually land in his career, was a bottom 1/top 2-ish prospect, at best. We're talking about a significantly better player. On paper.
