Respect to Ariza for choosing his kid over money.

This is an easy choice for Bertans. He will likely make big money this offseason, and the Wizards shouldn't even be there.

His son’s mother sounds shady. Choosing his visitation when she knew he had to work.

Not huge names, but not scrubs either. both solid contributors. This could get interesting. My thought was peer pressure and their love of basketball would probably get 95% of them to show. The money is piddles. But I may have underestimated covid intelligence as a contributing factor given the population is well informed and divided 50/50 on resurfacing. I'm gonna stick with a prediction of 93.7 percent.

    80 incl. the sick, injured.

Courtney Lee out for the Mavs with a calf injury.

In my mind, regardless of who drops out, there's no scenario where this isn't already an asterisk title.

No such thing as an asterisk title, cut it out.

Asterisk only if the Rockets win.

If any other team wins,"well deserved! playing through the pandemic! Absolutely heroic!"

It sucks that he wasn’t able to adjust it. I’m sure that this month was negotiated months before the Covid pandemic but he should’ve been able to renegotiate things due to these circumstances. Custody battles are frugal though and I’m sure Arica doesn’t want to do anything that would hurt his case.

From a basketball POV, I wonder if the Blazers plan on retaining Ariza next season. I’m not sure if the Blazers will want to tie up $12m in a 35 year old Ariza and his partially guaranteed contract could be appealing to teams trying to get under the lower cap. If J. Grant takes his player option or accepts a bigger contract from another team, then I would really like the Rockets to offer the MLE to Ariza for one year. Adding Ariza to PJ, RoCo and House would give the Rockets a great forward rotation. Obviously Ariza isn’t the player he was but he could start over House or come in off of the bench behind PJ. I can’t think of another FA forward out there that would fit the team better than Ariza other than Grant and I feel like Grant is a long shot. I also think that Ariza would stick around with the Rockets for the minimum after next season as long as he didn’t want to retire.

Smart decision by both of these guys. There's no reason for players on teams like Portland, Washington and Phoenix to participate in this at the expense of health and family. The NBA really should've done a best-of-three series between Memphis and New Orleans since this whole 8-game "regular season" is a contrived way of getting Zion into the playoffs.

I'll be showering myself in champagne in downtown Houston while catching the Rona if the Rockets win the championship. Asterisk my ass.
