Lol, all clear everybody. Not sure why we're wasting our time with vaccines when Epidemiologist @ktex has met the threat and deemed it insufficient.

On this Memorial Day approx 100,000 American families have lost loved ones and we have idiots on this site spewing that this is a hoax and no danger whatsoever. Sad......

Until 99% of them realize there is nothing else they can do to make a lifetime worth of money in a short period of time

They've already gotten most of their salary for this year. Most can afford to not play... although I believe they will because they actually like what they do for a living.

The players will/could drag it out till the league stops paying them for failure to preform. That want happen now with the pandemic. Public Relations is always in the the forethought of the league.

If the games are all played at a single site, there would be no travel days. The playoffs could easily be condensed.

Just a thought, it's already been well reported that they want to play. (Well, at least the big names.) The NBPA also did a poll on it, as well, and found "overwhelming support."

Secondly, they're not going to be "playing basketball for our entertainment." If they play, they're going to be playing basketball because it's their job, and it brings in money to provide for their families.

There's a reason why more and more colleges are opening their fall semesters sooner and trying to close up all in-person operations by Thanksgiving. In all likelihood, the risk will become greater in the fall/winter than it will be this summer.

So if the NBA can't make it work in a shortened format in the summer, not sure how you could reasonably have hope that a much longer format could work in the winter. In that scenario, you'd probably be looking at years without basketball or any revenue from it.

Time will tell, but I strongly suspect the players (as has already been reported) will accept some degree of limited risk — as many of us will — for quality-of-life benefits. And no, it's not "for our entertainment." It would be for them to make money.

    7 game remaining reg season + 4x 7gm series = 35 game days

so to make it more or less every other day, we'd need ~70 days total, or about 10 weeks (not just 6)

pls let me know if my math's wrong here bro

Some people think Sandy Hook is still a hoax... I wonder who can talk to someone that has lost someone and tell them to their face that their family member's death was faked.

Since Gilbert has covid, he'd be excluded from playoffs. If other starters or key bench players tests positive, is the NBA going to publicly say that on the DNP report. Is Woj going to drop bombs on player's covid status. The randomness of the flu can give certain teams advantages.

Say if Giannis has it and don't play, are fans going to put an asterisk on which ever team that does win a 'ship.

If a player is outed, does that hurt that lucrative extension or free market value.

Testing is paramount so it is necessary. If a player gets the virus, with no vaccine in sight does it mean the end of his professional playing career? If the vaccine don't come until years later, he could be past his prime.

On a darker outlook, will a covid positive NBA player try to cheat the test system, so he doesn't lose his brand/value. Selfishly putting everyone on court and production staff at risk.

I'd want the league to run the official tests. If individual teams wants to run their tests, that's fine, but as a supplement. NBA can't use that old loosey goosey test system for PEDs. *glances at Wade's jaw*

Sadly U.S. is not better contained than other countries.
Re opening is going to be delicate.

P.s. there is some positive news: studies from other countries that suggest after a positive player, who beats the virus he maybe not likely to retransmit. But not sure how reliable that is yet and will other healthy players are willing to gamble and play against a covid+ player. Would you want to be the player to D up Golbert?
