well, imagine 50-70% of the population having a car accident over the next few months, 20% of which require hospitalization, of which 8% ends up in ICU for weeks and 1-6% die depending on if the health care system collapse.

Who benefits from fixing a system that Obama can be blamed for. That's the type of "forward looking" president we got here.
Fixing systems take experts - they have never been of use to a person whose businesses go bankrupt but he is still fine. He fired the epidemic experts because he won't listen to them (much) anyway. He is a logical guy in a way.

He knows that he lost the Corona fight, so his only fighting chance now is to try and return economy to a working state regardless of the human toll.

[Smart money says he won't be able to - not in time for November election and given that he is so nonchalant about human toll from the pandemic, he better not dare and postpone elections during the autumn wave of Covid19 by any significant time]

Going backward and not containing the epidemic is horrible for the Nation first and foremost and will be a nightmare for Trump.

We've seen nations that are now able to no longer having deaths rising and some having no deaths at all. We've seen what they've done. We should follow their lead since we didn't have a leader that could put America in a place to take the lead. But we should do what has worked. Going backwards wasn't what worked. It will spread the virus and kill more people. That's horrible for the nation and families first and foremost, and also for the economy. Yes it sucks to have to hurt the economy and all of the workers and their families in order to contain the virus. It doesn't suck as bad as getting more killed and sick. That hurts families even more. Swallow the bad tasting medicine now so that we can get over the symptoms and move forward in the future. The bad taste doesn't last as long as losing a family member.

That is why it is bad for Trump. As soon as he rolls back the restrictions and someone catches the virus and dies and their family is willing to appear in commercials and press outings for Biden, that's it for Trump. When there are multiple people appearing and many folks will know someone or at least of someone that passed because of the virus, then it's even worse. Commercials running day and night of a widow who talks about losing her husband because Trump was more worried about a short term damage to his hotel business than he was about the suffering and death of Americans will ruin Trump. It will hurt him more if some of the widows or children who lost parents are speaking about servicemen and women who died because of Trump going backwards.

Staying at home will not make the virus go away but reduces the rate of infection so that the curve flattens and prevent the healthcare system frm being overwhelmed (in which case people that would have surved the infection start dying).

The big problem is that the orange idiot has not been making use of the time to improve and maximize the preparedness and capacity of the healthcare system, and instead has been wasting the breathing room gained from the stay at home.

If we had testing for all we could isolate and be done with this in a month.

In another 2-3 weeks after those that were sick would recover or die.

Know I’m butting in, but if I or a loved one was close to death and other treatments were not working, I would like the option to use chloroquine. Reality is that we will know a lot more about its efficacy (or lack thereof) soon. In the meantime, I would go with some shot, even a long shot, over simply succumbing.

plus, your last statement was way over the line.

It’s a terrible question. Do we really want to make life and death decisions based upon who is “productive”.

If you are close to death, yes you are free to try anything (including divine intervention) after all what have you got to lose, but the real question is would you or a loved one use chloroquine (or any other unproven drug) as your first choice? All the world has to go by right now is an unsubstantiated claim from China, and dubious trials in Italy and France

As to my earlier statement, I have no goodwill towards anyone that persistently and deliberately spreads info that puts the lives of others at risk. Some people have already been put in harms way cos of people like him and Trump. If he is not optimistic enough to wish his loved one if infected be treated with Chloroquine, then he shouldnt raise false optimism about something he knows little to nothing about.

I really don't see it being a 6 month ordeal.

Just about everyone is taking this seriously now and isolating. That means no new hosts to transmit the virus to and once those with it either recover or succumb .... its over.

I've been tracking with this site - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ which updates in real time.

It's encouraging that only 6 states showed a total of 2,414 new cases for 3/23 and 97% of those - 2,355 are in New York.

Only 8 states have more than 1000 cases.

    NY 23,230
    New Jersey 2,844
    Washington 2,221
    Cali 2,162
    Michigan 1,328
    Illinois 1,285
    Florida 1,227
    Louisiana 1,172

Texas and Georgia round out the top 10 with 806 and 803.

This isn't near as terrible (Yet) as some were making it out to be a couple weeks ago - we were talking about millions of potential deaths.
The spread outside a couple locations has been controlled / limited and we can put this behind us in a month or so , assuming we can stop spreading it to new hosts. Bad part is that for every new case , the timeline is pushed back.

    I'm pretty optimistic ....

I think we need our leaders to not get complacent. It is still REALLY not good. These numbers are the foundation of a great crisis because it grows exponentially. Even one case can create more.

Trump's incompetence and stupidity as well as failed leadership at the CDC, led us to where we are -- a true out-of-control pandemic. Had reliable test kits been available in quantities proportional to our population, this thing could have been greatly minimized. Kind of hard to control an outbreak when you don't know who is positive for the Coronavirus.

    What a **** up.

    https://www.emergobyul.com/resources/regulations-united-states

feel free to peruse them all, and there are a ton of them, and the who equipment doesn't fit many of them, in particular the tracking and recording.

They tried to sidestep it by saying state certification was good enough, Cuomo even wrote a letter asking the federal government to just ignore the regulations and laws, but It was only once emergency powers were enacted that the order to just ignore it could occur.

They have always known that the WHO equipment doesn't meet US standards (consider who the WHO needs to manufacture for), but they've deliberately left it out to lead people by the nose.

No doubt about that - one case can lead to a whole new outbreak.

I am hoping for the best and I think this week will tell us a lot. A week and a half ago in Minnesota we had 3 confirmed cases. Yesterday they said we had 235 cases with 66 just confirmed over the weekend. A lot of this is due to more testing but things like that show we really don't have a handle on how big this is.
