The China virus is the 4th global pandemic of powerhouse deadly virus exporter China in the past 20 years. While China has proven adept at copying concepts of the West and using intense human labor to exploit these ideas , they've also proven very adept at constantly manufacturing diseases that threaten to wipe out humanity, not to mention the crippling economic affects to average citizens.

Will the West have the courage to hold China liable for their lax policies towards conditions that create drug resistant diseases? All in the name of profit and abusive work conditions? Or will it be a Saudi type situation where atrocities will be swept under the rug as long as the business deals look good...

Can't spend money when you're dead. We've long excused Chinese inhumanity for their ability to produce and manufacture copied ideas, but now that the problem has entered our backyard it is finally time to grow the courage to start moving factories and financial opportunities elsewhere. Japan, Korea, India, Vietnam and Indonesia all have shown more interest in sustaining humanity.

This would be a great opportunity to tighten up restrictions on US companies outsourcing their manufacturing to China and reduce the dependency on Chinese imports. This pandemic will certainly highlight our weaknesses and will no doubt result in a being better prepared for the next one. I don't see anyone holding the Chinese government liable. But there should be a concerted effort to recognize that China views the U.S. as their enemy and while I wouldn't go as far as isolationism, I would encourage the companies that have their manufacturing workforce in China to move them to an allied country. Mexico and central America comes to mind. We'll have to suck it up and take the hit in the pocket book but everything changes from this point on anyway. If things are going to be bad economically for a while, we might as well get it right.

This is a stupid thread. If the virus had come from a pet hoarder in her dirty home no one would be calling it the America virus.

Are we now being politically correct about what we call the virus? Who gives a F what it's called?

The US and Europe must move a significant amount of critical production (meds, rare earth metals, etc) out of China and diversify our supply chain.

Calling it China virus is ridiculous besides there are so many... but I wouldn't have had a problem with Wuhan Virus nothing wrong with calling it the name where it originated. But it's too late now anyways -- coronavirus has stuck.

Coronavirus is a bad name but it has stuck. My point is that the people who clamor to call it the China Virus have ulterior motives. Given the amount of people attacking people of seeming chinese origin it's just a sick idea. I believe they want to foster hate and use the origin argument as a way to push their case.

I mean, are we really surprised at the poster here who are leading the charge to call it China Virus?

Trump is a messiah. He saw this coming a long time ago and has been trying to do his best to prevent this from happening.

There was an effort to do just that - move our imports from China to other nations we had better relationships with that could replace Chinese exports. But Trump killed that. It had a name though - it was call the Trans Pacific Partnership.

I say dilly dilly. It needed to be corrected a long time ago. It’s great time to correct the course. It’s not that Trump saw it coming. It’s that he had the guts to do something unpopular to deal with it. Now we, as a nation, have the opportunity to change a lot of things. It’s really a great opportunity to get healthcare for all correct. Unfortunately, I don’t have faith that the politicians can put aside their hatred for each other to come together and get it right.
