He's already injury prone, and if Zion doesn't control his weight, he's going to have a very short career.

Watching him run or even walk up and down the court - his motion just looks unnatural and not fluid like a normal person.

He walks like a 35 year old. I hope his handlers are giving him honest advice. The has the potential to make 400 million dollars in his career and the only thing that can get in the way of that is injury.

Why is there this weird obsession with the kids weight? There hasn't been an official number since he was at Duke. His conditioning is fine. He's not injury prone. It's almost as if people are waiting for him to get hurt just so they can say, "Ha! I knew it, I knew he was too heavy!"

There is an obsession because his entire game is dependent on his athleticism. He jumps like 5 feet in the air on every play and if you watched a dude named Blake Griffin all these years you'd know that kind of stress is not good for your knees.

He's not injury prone? Really? Didnt he sprain his ankle just cuz he stopped abruptly? Didnt he miss half of his rookie season? But he ain't injury prone. LOL!

Zion just became the most efficient scoring rookie in NBA history he is a joy to watch on the court both aethesically and also in terms of efficiency. It's crazy he is so good despite only being 19 with little pro experience it'd be a shame if his career got cut short simply cuz he couldnt lose a few pounds.

Blake Griffin had multiple different, serious injuries before he even got started in the league. He missed his entire rookie season due to injuries. You're assuming they're one and the same because they're both athletic, high-flyers? BG never had weight issues and he dealt with injuries. On the flipside, LeBron's been jumping out the gym his whole career and he's been rumored to be 280 at one point and has hovered around a massive 250 his whole career and he's never had any real injury issues.

The injury Zion had at Duke wasn't serious at all. He was ready to come back after three games. The injury he had in the preseason causing him to sit out was his first real injury and even that wasn't very serious. In fact, there were none of the common symptoms like pain or swelling with that injury. He was ready to go after just 6 weeks. His body is built different than nearly anyone the game has seen. When sitting at 280, he only has 9% body fat. I don't think you would be able to grasp how insane that is.

"The injury was not considered to be serious as the Pelicans took a cautious approach to hold him out." Besides, stopping abruptly is an action more likely to cause injuries than several different movements typically would. Players in this league have had much worse injuries doing a lot less.

Also worth adding, the idea that "his entire game is dependent on his athleticism" is an extremely casual statement. It's certainly the most advantageous part of his game, but it's not his entire game. That's like saying Harden's game is dependent on drawing free throws, another casual opinion you hear a lot, LOL!

LOL, not even close. Tim is a top 10 all time. Give zion some time to develop and make a career and then maybe, maaaaaybee, you cna bring Tim Duncan into the conversation.

I don't think you made a solid argument. BG is a great comparison. Sure there not "one in the same", but what does that even mean? No two different humans will ever be one in the same, and the Ros was just making a comparison. It's a very fair comparison because their freakish athleticism really can't be compared to many other players.

As far as Lebron being 280, I don't think I really believe that, though I've heard the rumors of around 270. You mentioned 250lbs, Lebron being 2 inches taller and 30 pounds lighter is a big difference.

I think some of us can grasp that 280lbs and 9% is not normal, which is exactly why we feel he's likely to be chronically injured. His body will not be able to take all that pounding. Not only that but his teammates know he'll go grab anything out of the sky, so he's taking far more risky jumps than any other player I can think of. Even if it's not his fault and just lands on someone's ankle, that can cause drastically cause more damage for him more than any other play due to all the force he's landing with.

I hope I'm wrong because he's fun to watch, but even small guys usually injure there way out of 40 inch verticals, and if Zion fills out even more in his 20's, I think it's just a matter of time.

Lebron is an outlier, that's not how normal bodies work and he is 6'8 not 6'6. That allows him to have more muscle in his frame in a healthy manner and at his heaviest Lebron was 280 well Zion's listed weight is 285 lol. So not only is Zion 2 inches shorter he also has 5 pounds on Lebron at his heaviest. Comparing Zion or anybody else to Lebron is a bit of a joke nobody else has been an athletic beast for 16 years in the modern NBA. To be comparable to lebron you need to first not miss any games while leading the league in mins played your first 7 years and THEN ok, you can start the Lebron ironman comparisons. Zion already missed half his rookie year so no, he doesnt deserve to be compared to Lebron health wise.

Having his first real injury his rookie year is already a red flag, Zion got injured with nobody on him he jumped up, landed and presto he is injured lol. That's not a good sign of his body's resilience to wear and tear how many times Lebron and KD jump and down their rookie years without getting injured? In terms of comparison to their health Zion is much closer to BG than Lebron and its just cuz both of them are high flyers.

Weight is weight doesnt matter if it is muscle, fat or bone density when you jump up the weight stresses out your joints when you land. You can have 1% fat and your leg joints and ankles will still give out.

Zion's game is entirely dependent on his athleticism cuz he is 6'6, has no range and playing the PF position. He had that 3pt explosion his first game but now is just taking less than 1 a game so technically he still doesnt have range. He has virtually no mid range game either only 13% of his shots come from beyond 3 feet and he is shooting only 16% from 3-10 ft. That means Zion does need his athleticism to do what he does, he is short so he needs to be able to jump high and he needs to do quick acceleration/deceleration moves which does include starting/stopping suddenly and changing directions abruptly. It's a style that we have seen with so many players and almost all of them dealt with wear and tear injuries in their career. Do you have any proof Zion is the ultimate unicorn like Lebron? No, in fact he had his first injury before he even debuted and it was a noncontact injury at that.

TLDR People aren't waiting and hoping for Zion to get injured they are just calling a spade a spade and saying if you need to jump high and dunk the ball almost every play and you weigh a ton its only a matter of time before you blow your knee out. Saying he can be like Lebron is like saying a random college drop out will be the next Mark Zuckerberg. LoL!

In the misfortunate events Zion actually ends up having a career cut short due to injuries I don’t think its fair to assume his weight was the main culprit or even a factor at all. Some guys are just unlucky and have careers shortened by injuries even if they’re in excellent shape and do their best to take care of their bodies.

Brandon Roy, Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway. Easily come to mind as guys that were in elite shape yet their careers were cut short regardless. D. Rose and Blake Griffin both got robbed of their elite athleticism because of multiple knee operations and anything and everything you can think of (Poor rehab, return to soon, bad surgery, bad luck etc) besides them being out of shape.

WB has had 4 knee operations 3 in one year time period and a scope yet he hasn’t missed a beat aside from what little athleticism he lost from getting older. Zach Lavine tore his ACL and he’s doing the same **** he was before that.

So far what minor injuries Zion has had since HS seem more like freak injuries, being to reckless/physical as opposed to his weight somehow causing them. Zion’s weight isn’t holding him back in any way IMO he’s fine.

That Jimmy Butler sure is a fat ass. Look at him tear his meniscus with no contact and he didn’t even jump!

Why should Zion shoot 3’s and mid range jumpers when he beasts at the rim and nobody can stop him? I don’t know about you but I’d say it’s pretty wise and shows high ball IQ when players stick and play to their strengths. Also for the record I think Zion can develop a nice jumper and post game as well. Kid is only 19 and already has excellent footwork and a soft touch. LeBron as a rookie didn’t have range and a jumper. Neither did Giannis or Kawhi. Kobe averaged 7 ppg as a rookie and 15 pts in his second year. KD shot 29% from 3 as a rookie.

Lebron is fortunate to have never suffered any type of major knee injury or injury at all for that matter during his career. It’s not cause he’s doing anything different compared to guys who suffered a major injury. He’s just been extremely blessed and lucky.
