This cherry-picking post is just as annoying as those who cherry-pick Morey's good moves as GM, ignore the bad, and claim he's a "genius," a great GM and a "playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers." The truth is, he has made plenty of bad decisions to go with the good. He's an above-average GM at best. I think overall we're lucky to have him, but let's not get carried away.

    This was a JVG thing.

Drafting has never been a high point
    Spurs is a good example
Golden State is not . . . . Rockets never had draft picks as high as Golden State had

Hmmmmm. Not sure who you are but thanks for the free rent. I’ve heard that love and hate are basically the same thing. Lots of love in your post for sure.

THIS is where I stopped reading. Clutch actually made it further in the post than I did.

Morey and JVG collaborated on personnel. So that era isn't something you take into consideration.

What Morey managed to do with Yao & T-Mac post-JVG was amazing. He put pieces around them that could have won the title (Artest year) but also found a way from underneath both. They were both great players but... let's be honest. In reality they were 2 max contract guys that sat on the sidelines in suits. They hamstrung Morey's ability to maneuver.

Then there was the no-tanking mandate from Les.

Morey had to find ways to win when either/or Yao + TMac inevitably got injured.

Conveniently left out turning Rafer Alston into Kyle Lowry into a lottery pick which was a key component of the Harden trade.

    "Gifted" James Harden, lol

If you blame Morey for not winning with TMac and Yao you are a lost cause.

Sura's last season with the Rockets was 2004-2005. Morey's first season as assistant GM was 2006-2007.

So are we going to completely ignore how Morey totally fleeced the Spurs to get Scola (for V-Span and a 2nd rounder)? How he conned the Grizzlies to snag Lowry (for Rafer Alston in a 3-team deal)? How he robbed the Suns to grab Dragic (along with a 1st-round pick, for Aaron freakin' Brooks)?

As for the Harden deal, it's strange to say he was "gifted" James Harden by OKC when Morey was the only GM in the league who had methodically worked his way into the spot where, when Presti decided to pull the trigger, the Rox were the team he called.

Apart for acquiring Harden, Morey's best move EVER was immediately dumping Derek Fisher before he had time to take a single pic in a Rockets jersey.

Dude, EVERY GM has made bad moves are you serious??? Pat Riley give HASSAN WHITESIDE A MAX. And look at the Heat now. Morey has been an awesome gm. This thread is basically "wah wah, no champion, we losing, you bad"

I'll post the positive aspects of Morey:

Drafted Calvin Murphy and Rudy T.
Gave Murphy the green light to shoot unless Sura was in the game.
Made a great trade to acquire Moses Malone and created the original twin towers concept with Billy Paultz. Made two unexpected trips to the Finals led by Bob Sura at point guard.
Surrounded Hakeem with Robert Horry, Kenny Smith, Otis Thorpe (among others) and won the Championship with Sura regulated to bench duty.
Made a midseason acquisition to acquire Drexler which propelled them to a second consecutive championship. Sura never played but provided positive enthusiasm from the bench.

I believe @Clutch will vouch for these moves.
