Small chance, but a chance nonetheless, that the Astros are better off moving forward with Click than they would’ve been with Luhnow.

I feel better than I did. Still would prefer Hinch and Luhnow but Click seems solid and if Dusty truly is just a figure head to talk to reporters and deal with clubhouse issues while Espada runs baseball, this should be a good season.

Still think we need to find a way to get another starting pitcher

I like the Click hire. Dusty is growing on me, especially since so much of managerial decisions in an analytics driven organization is, to some degree, pre-determined. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Hinch and Luhnow. It’ll be interesting to see if and when either are hired by other organizations. I think it’s just a matter of time for both. Hopefully both go to the NL if so. I’d like for both to be in baseball, but far, far away from us. Go to...the Marlins.

You can make the argument that in any organization, management that was at first cutting edge and willing to take risks can over time become stagnant and out-dated. A new set of eyes with a top of the line built infrastructure like the Astros have may do some creative things that work out. Certainly, that's what the Rays' front office is known for.

Also, Luhnow's whole operation seemed a bit sleazy. The sign-stealing, the misogyny, the McKinsey consultants coming in - we tolerated it because we were winning pennants and rings, but in retrospect, the culture was probably gross. Eventually, that will catch up to you. We get a culture re-set with this hire while retaining a focus on all the innovative player dev and analytics of the previous regime.

The Rays fans on their Reddit thread are melting down over this lol. Don't know much about the guy but from all signs seems like a good hire.

Huh? I hope so but not sure why the comment about better than Jeff Luhnow? Could you explain why he will be a better GM than Luhnow?

Atleast Manfred didn't make Crane hire the lackey from the MLB office, like I thought would happen.

Great hire. I’d still take Lunhow and Hinch back in a second but this is a solid plan B.

Love the Rays as an organization. I’d rather still have Luhnow, but since that ship has sailed, I don’t think we were going to do any better.
I would have bet everything I own that was going to be the case. Very pleasantly surprised.

I, like everybody here, wants this to work. I just hope it doesnt turn out to be a Rich Cho situation - highly educated, highly regarded but fell flat as a GM.

Also, do we know if he's ever worked for McKinsey?
