Tilman inherited a team with horrible contracts and a crippled team salary. He had to give assets in order to move forward but somehow people can't comprehend this. CF solution to a maxed team salary and full roster space with 0 value is just to spend more.

The Ariza reference is ridiculous. Washington made an idiotic trade in part because they had already agreed to trade Oubre in the "which Brooks?" trade and sort of panicked after that fell apart and wasn't particularly discerning because they weren't going to re-sign him. There was no reasonable expectation that the salary you would take back when trading him would be a promising young player. Having to give up an asset to shed his salary would have been more likely than getting something worthwhile back for him. Signing Ariza would have cost $30 million in real money for one season and as expected, his production severely fell off. Very few owners would have signed off on that. Dolan actually might have in this instance in part because he's kind of a fool and wouldn't have realized that was a bad investment. But that foolishness over the long term is generally not good and why the Knicks have sucked for so long. Criticizing Tilman for shedding assets to go below the tax line due to what might be irrational fear of the repeater tax in the future is fair. We know that Dolan equals your franchising being a complete joke. Maybe things will turn out that way with Tilman, but I'll take the mystery box in the meantime. Tilman also did build an empire. Dolan is a legacy kid who sings (not very well) in a blues band. That's gotta count for something too.
Chris Paul's decline had a lot more to do with the W/L regression than not having the version of Ariza we would have had last year.
not really. when you go from the likes of ariza/moute to guys like chriss, mcw, melo, knight, ennis as your supporting cast its no wonder that the season started 11-14. LTS cost a 65 win team real depth. from legitimate role players to bottom feeding/borderline guys. that's not going to cut it no matter how much cf's wanted to make themselves believe they were good. cringe worthy posts on this board btw. that was the worst offseason by far of this tenure.
He forced Morey into making moves that he otherwise wouldn't do, including trading picks/young talent to dip below the tax line and overruling him on the Westbrook trade. If we have a disappointing post-season (which is not unlikely) and can't rebuild a championship team I fully expect Morey to leave.
If you aren't paying the tax with what he inherited when is he ever going to pay it? A non tax paying team hasn't won a ring in a long time. I can get behind a lot of the moves but dumping your last big contract in Knight and then not using exceptions or resigning Shump to a filler contract completely crushed flexibility. Knight could have been traded for Iggy.
