Hope they try and bring him back later at a reduced price, minor league deal. Still young with upside.
Good for Moustakas 4yr/64 mil to the Reds Reds probably gotta overspend to attract FA’s but that’s a lot of $$ Market will probably shrink with less suitors after payroll restraints
Let me guess.....the media is going to somehow turn this into the Astros being a cold-hearted organization full of puppy-kickers that don't care about player livelihoods. And Jomboy is going to find a video where he reads AJ Hinch's lips as he tells Sanchez to go **** himself.
YES! Sign me UP!!!!! Also have a lot of uncertainty in our pen. Shiny new toy I can totally get behind.
Pretty much a walking microcosm of how absurdly unpredictable relievers can be. He had an 0.78 ERA in 2018. He will definitely be in demand as a rebound project for anybody. Contenders and non contenders hoping to create value to flip him. Unless you can get Sanchez to agree to a 2 year deal, there's no reason to give him any significant amount of money. His injury and his struggles just make him too poor an investment for 2020.
Wheeler, 29, has received at least one $100 million offer and will land a five-year deal in excess of that amount, according to major-league sources. The White Sox, Twins, Reds, Rangers and Blue Jays are among the clubs pursuing Wheeler, who is the leading free-agent alternative to fellow right-handers Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg even though his career ERA+ (ERA adjusted to park and league) is exactly league average.
Rendon to the Rangers unfortunately makes a lot of sense. They could be legit competition to us sooner rather than later. Pitching staff still needs a lot of work, but their lineup could be well above average depending how their offseason goes. Unrelated, but:
I hope Rendon lands in Arlington. He is going to get a contract in excess of $200,000,000 and at some point over the next handful of years the Rangers will be hamstrung on their budget and try to move him or lose good players as free agents. It is just the Rangers way to oddly sign a free agent or two for a large amount of money and live to regret it.
With quality bats being non tendered, I don’t see any way Houston trades Reddick without eating most of his salary or including good prospects. It may make more sense to just keep him as the 26th man, using him as a lefty pinch hitter and reserve OF. Will save service time on Straw/Toro and have insurance against Tucker busting or an OF getting hurt.
Might be able to move him at the deadline to offset some salary. Otherwise, Astros would have to give up a lot of talent to dump his salary. Especially with him having shoulder surgery. I predicited Yu Darvish money. It might be close and I bet the Astros are out on him now.
I’d be ok with Houston signing Junior Guerra or Kevin Gausman to a cheap 2 year deal, and having them compete with Peacock and Urquidy for a rotation spot, with the losers going to the bullpen.
Phillies have been throwing around a lot of money the last few years. If he wasn't going to be an Astro, I am glad that he is going to the NL and not the Dodgers or Braves. The only downside is that supposedly the Yankees are confident that they can get the resources to match or exceed any offer for Cole.
Wheeler for $120M/5yr is pretty steep and assumes he will capitalize on significant upside. I would have put his value around $90M/5yr. Houston is going to trade for a good starter. They will not spend more than $50M on a free agent pitcher. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/money-to-spend-whats-the-likely-state-of-team-payrolls-in-2020/
