Ninety-eight percent of CF thought that he might not stick
Two percent of them knew that he belonged here.

John Lucus flat out saying not signing House last year cost them seed position. Accurate. So, Tilman, your penny pinching cost the #2 seed and WCF. That's on you.

"It cost us some positions [in the Western Conference] because he went down there and we lost our rhythm," said Lucas. "And he never got back in sync once he came back up at the end of the year. So it's taking him this whole summer to get him back to where he would've been if he hadn't left."

He is not in this to win it. I won’t be surprised if any move we make this year is only to duck the tax.

"In the early-2000s, it seemed like every kid who touched a basketball in the city of Houston owned a Steve Francis or a Yao Ming jersey."

The cool kids owned a Head jersey.

He fits so well in the lineup, especially starting lineup. He's always at the right place at the right time on defense. It really is a pleasure watching him on the court. I really hope this translates into the playoffs. I gave him benefit of the doubt last postseason, but this season he will play the entire season with this roster.

Nah, getting clobbered by the Bucks in a must-win game cost the Rox the no 2 seed. If you think House is the reason for missing the No 2 seed Rox should be paying him the max. Plus, who cares about the seed? Rox already had 1st 2 years ago didnt result in a Finals appearance. Raptors were like 3rd seed but defeated 1st seed Bucks pretty handily. Seeds are extremely overrated it doesnt matter when playoffs start.

The "penny pinching" worked out great he signed a 3 year 3M contract instead of getting overpaid and leaving the team Parsons style. Imagine if House played the entire season and got a 10M offer somewhere else, he outta here instead of being the starting SF. So really, House being on the team is on Tillman and everytime you praise House you should praise Tillman too because he is the reason House is still a Rocket.

I think among people who made the NBA and who are regulars and long term contributors there is still a long path ahead.

He has to show he can do this over a time span of years... and learn to be consistent.

Once there was a fellow named danuel house
he fell as a victim of luxury tax
    instead of high seeding
    and the rings galore
    tilman saved the taxes
an got house to play even more

    "Who cares about the seed?"

By this logic, should shut everything down once you clinch a playoff spot. Good grief.

I've said this before and ultimately we'll never know the answer, but my personal belief is that House wouldn't have signed a 3-year leftover MLE deal in January. IMO, there's a reason they explicitly asked for the one-year conversion. Oddly enough, while I agree that converting House in January to the one-year deal (at his request) would have helped last year's team, it might have pushed him out the door entirely in the summer — because his market value would have way exceeded the smaller MLE, assuming he kept playing that way. So in a strange way, the haggling may have helped a little* in terms of keeping him long-term.

The * is because I do agree that there was penny-pinching, I just dispute the exact timing of it (at least relative to Rahut). IMO, they should have been more proactive in December once his breakout began, as opposed to waiting until the 45-day clock expired in mid-January. That was the real mistake. By January, House and his agent had too much leverage. I do think that component was at least in part a Tilman call.

This is a headscratching take on playoff seedings.
