You wouldn't get a pimp ride, just a very well made truck.

here is the current inside. I’m about to finish insulating the walls and redo the floors to match the cabinet. The chest in front of the elevated bed hides the fridge and emergency toilet and will be painted/stained and get a fixed cushion on top so it acts as a couch.

ohhhh. And I figured out what a Taco is

I have a 4wd ‘07 FJ Cruiser, which is a Tacoma base and engine, slightly lifted with mud tires. It’s capable of ‘overlanding’ but outside of grasshopping when the freeway is backed up, admittedly it’s been a mall crawler.

Tacomas are excellent for driving over land.

    Everyone has their opinion.

My uncle ****ing hates his Dodge, constantly in the shop, not sure what year but it's very recent. Other people love their Fords. Diesels, I'm talking. Never met anyone who drives a Chevy.

whereas I had a Cummins for 13 years, loved it, motor was indestructible but the frame started to rust. Friend of mine had a Ford and had to have the cab taken off several times to have the diesel worked on

    Wow. That's awesome.

I would love to do that after retirement, which is still probably 30 years away for me. Depends on if I could convince my wife or not

It has a V6; the originals had a V4 but were super light so they didn’t need more muscle.

They made them in Japan until 2017. You can still find low mileage FJs but they are pricey for a used ride. Dat Toyota reliability.

I work remotely so I just need a good connection (which is sometimes tough in the middle of no where).

I didn't even try to convince the wife. After 27 years together I told her this is what I was going to do and she is free to join me anytime she wants. She has not spent a single night in the van and I've had it 1.5 years. She now lives in Clear Lake taking care of her Mom (and I support them financially) and I live in the Austin area in my van unless I take off traveling. She's happy and taken care of, I'm happy and free to do what I want and go where I want. I drop in every month or 2 to see her and my grown kids (17 & 19) that still live at home. Win Win.

if the van is a rocking, don't come a knocking. :)

After 27 years she couldn't care less what I do, or with whom. My relationship with her doesn't have to be defined by societal norms.

I had 2 opportunities to close the deal on my recent trip. First one was at a Descend on Bend (a vanlife fest) with a nice looking lady in her late 40's, but she was drunk, and I wasn't so I opted out.

The second was in Santa Cruz. I met this hot young (30ish) surfer chick by the beach, I was making pancakes watching the surf as the sun came up. She pulled in next to me, sat on top of her car and lit a joint. She shared her joint with me and I shared my pancakes with her. We ended up hanging out all day and partying into the night. She sent the signals and they real hard to pass up... but in the end I decided not too.

The sex is always out there if you want it.

You know, that's alllll-right. As long as everyone is happy and no one is hurt.
